Default GoPro mount for vintage FC car

Hi everyone, looking for ideas (proven ideas) for a new gopro mount for my Reynard FC.
Last season I went through 3 mounts and 2 cameras!
    See pics for failed attempts.
The top of roll hoop is about 6” circumference and oval, so not many options there that I can think of.
I was going to go will all aluminum pieces including gopro housing, but worry about the potential for damage it would cause other cars if it did come off again.

Please share your successful mounting solutions! I assume the vibrations are too much for gopro plastic since it’s definitely not speed or g-forces! (See top fuel drag racing gopro vids lol)

    thanks!

I also own a Reynard FC and had difficulty getting a satisfactory pic when mounted to the car. Ultimately, I found a helmet mounted GoPro provided the most stable picture. My neck is a better dampener.

    There are lots of them.

I'm using an AIM Smartycam GP. I use this mount: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=gopro+ram..._ts-doa-p_1_13

I also have the camera lockwired to my roll bar so it doesn't leave the car.

I used gopro session cameras mounted to the body work. That seemed to isolate vibrations fairly well.
The gopro "shoe" was just glued in place.
Then I used the gopro ball mount. That improved the picture.
The only failure I had was at the cage where it mounts. The 2 prongs failed.
I bought an aluminum cage off Amazon and ran a safety wire tether on that.

    Pictures were good.

Default Bolted to the Top of the Roll Hoop

On our 88FF Reynard, we drilled thru the older style GoPro "adheasive" mount, and then drilled a hole thru the top of the roll hoops between the two hoops (where they are welded/brazed together) and taped that hole (1/4-28, I believe). Then just bolted that adheasive mount to the top of the hoop. Bonus points for also using the adheasive. Secondary teather attached to the camera just in case.

    Thanks guys.
I’ve thought about drilling through the top of the hoop and bolting in, there’s just no going back so I chickened out lol.
Are the RAM mounts reliable? They seem to have great reviews for off-road vehicles. I’ve just never considered them because they look so bulky, but this one looks strong:

Let us all keep in mind that Michael Schumacher had a helmet mounted camera when he had his skiing accident. I'm sure his helmet skiing was not the same one he wore when in the F1 car.......but the point is > no helmet is crash tested with a camera mounted to it - so the mounting of one to a helmet is likely to compromise the crashworthiness of the helmet........how much would be difficult to say but would you really like to self-test that ?

Ram makes a quality product but that one has so many joints that are potential failure points.

A while back I produced some billet GoPro mounts that can be bolted anywhere with a 3/8-16 bolt. I still have some if you think it would work. Price would be around $20.

Nice looking piece! But from what I see on the car I wouldn’t have any place to put it where it would work well. Thanks though.

    It's a huge jump from:

"no helmet is tested with a camera mounted to it"

    to:

"likely to compromise the crashworthiness of the helmet"

    Don't you think?
