From some of the posts I see these days, you'd think Hamilton wasn't even in the car driving since it's so much "the car" haha. To the article above though, I sure hope the AI is better than in the video games I've seen!

Racing was always about human spirit ,skill and endurance.

Now apparently is all about tech.

Yes. It’s autonomous car racing. Think of it as one step above all the un-driven cars sitting in people’s garages waiting for the good old days to return.

It IS racing, just like downhill marble racing is racing. It depends whether you or I are interested in it.

I assume they are fully autonomous, not remote controlled. So that means they must be programmed to know what to do in any situation--passing, being passed, maximizing speed depending on the grip level with new tires, old tires, handling issues, avoiding collisions, everything. We'll see if this actually happens, I didn't think this could all be done. I must say I would watch it.

Still, I'm getting a bumper sticker that says, THE GOV'T CAN HAVE MY HUMAN-DRIVEN GASOLINE-POWERED CAR WHEN THEY PRY MY COLD DEAD FOOT OFF THE CLUTCH PEDAL.

They are not remote control. They are autonomous. They know what to do by themselves. Depending on your opinion, that might be worse.

It's a challenge for robotics engineers, that will pay dividends in other ways, like getting kids interested in robotics. It won't directly help develop the elder-care and medical robotics that we will need in the future, but it will train the people who will develop those needed but boring tools. Doubt it will be much fun to watch, but if your a robotics engineering student, it would be fascinating, I'd guess.

Reminds me of my first go at that. P 51 fighter. Instructions warned against flying in high winds. As a 14 year old, I just couldn't wait... I stood on the pitcher's mound at the nearby ball field. Plane took off & made one round of the bases. Then, a gust of wind took the plane straight up ! Then, straight down into the dirt at third base... Plane destroyed. It was cool how big a hole it made ! Ya gotta find your joy whenever you can !

These autonomous cars should be fun to watch ! Might even drive to Indy to spectate, if allowed ???

For me & the Mrs., analog cars as long as they're allowed on the road. I don't like a car that can be controlled via satellite or cell... I instruct Law Enforcement in high speed pursuits & "pit". They enjoy the convenience of OnStar to stop perps on the run. It just takes a bit too long these days to work the system. Soon, it will be nearly instantaneous for Law Enforcement to disable vehicles on the run. No more chase videos from L.A.
