Who is the engine builder? I ask because I have a friend with an Imp race car that can't make a session before something catastrophic happens.

What the heck is a Hillman Imp?

    Just kidding...

But what gearbox is in it. Maybe a better engine is in its future...

Imp vs. Saab.... post Crosley.... big race motors, back in the day.....of BMW 700s in DS...H and G Mod..

There were a couple/three/team of very fast Imp Sedans that came down from Canada a few years ago...think Mid Ohio, SVRA race about 8-10 yrs ago. Don't recall the racers' names, but might find in some old results sheets or magazines..... Whoever did the engines seemed to have them spot on.

    Okie

edit.... for SRs, gearbox likely Renault, Hewland, or perhaps Fiat.... don't know specifics on the car posted above.

Someone told me the Imp engines were Coventry Climax designed or even supplied.
    Can anyone verify or deny?

    Default Beach

    Fun input
Yes the Hillman Imp is a less than 1000cc motor that looks like a 3/4 scale Coventry Climax
it’s been very reliable - originally built by a gentleman in Wisconsin who is no longer with us.
Team Atlanta has been keeping it healthy - Don was the restorer
There is a shop in Florida that has good reputation for engine builds
Gearbox is inverted Imp - built by UK Imp specialist Dave Weeden.
Beach Mk 4s have been powered by Fiat, VW, Hillman, Ford etc.
This ran in H mod and D sports.
I have a spare gearbox and enough parts for another dry sump motor.

There is a TON of detailed info and history about Beach Sports Racers and Imp engines, available here. Check it out. Cool stuff.
