    Default Bodywork in trailer ideas

When my FF goes into the trailer, it won't fit unless I remove the nose. I suspect this is very common.

So I'm seeking ideas on how to hang the nose on the trailer wall securely. In the photos you can see some pegboard but I don't think it's reliable enough to be part of the hanging system. Probably best to secure any system into the trailer wall. And the lower part of the nose will fit nicely between the two trailer tires if it's desireable to have it be that low.

Rather than describing my rube goldberg idea, I thought it best to just ask for examples of how others have done this.

    Thanks for the help everyone.

I make a "nest" with my car cover between car, trailer wall and right behind the front tire, put the nose in, then fold the cover over the top. No issues.

I have made tabs that are the receptacle side of the dzus fasteners for the body part. So basically you mount the body part to the trailer inside using the existing fasteners. Down side is that the tabs can be in the way at times.

I just place the nose in the cockpit of the car with a moving blanket. Nice and easy.

I remember a Swift FF driver that carried his nose/cowl (like yours) upside-down in a cargo net "hammock" hanging from the trailer ceiling.

    Default Just a caution...

In some respects the cargo net or moving blanket wrap in cockpit idea is nice and simple. Just note that the slightest dirt, dust, sand between the net/blanket and body can scuff paint pretty bad pretty quickly as you ramble down the road. Ask me how I know...

Do you use a different method?

note earlier post. I created tabs that stick out (in) from the trailer walls and mimic the parts of the frame that the body mounts to with dzus holes. So, you basically mount the body part to the wall or ceiling of the trailer with those tabs. I think this is common for sprint car guys with big wings and such (although often on the outside of the trailer).

Assuming that you are talking about a race car, and not a show car, you will put more abuse on the nose of the car in one lap of a FF race than in a couple thousand miles of a clean nose wrapped nicely in a mover blanket sitting in the cockpit of the race car in the trailer. I will attach to the wall, or a fixture that attaches to the floor (even better) when the nose won't fit in the cockpit, but it is more bother.

Like EricP, I like the idea of emulating the car's attachments.

I had a spare rear wing mounted against the wall and it had a similar brace as was bolted to the back of a Hewland (but the majority of the weight was supported by shelves/racks).

    Default Transporting front fiberglass

When I raced my Ralt RT-1, we mounted a spare nose frame to the ceiling. To that we slid our spare nose (sports car style with attached splitter) on to it and ran bungy cords over the other end to keep it tight to the ceiling and so it would not slide off. Easy to remove and not under our feet when loading.
