    Default MBE967 ecu

    Hi All,

I recently bought a Van Diemen equipped with an MBE967EF ECU (2.0L Zetec silvertop, LD200 gearbox, FE chassis). I know this ecu is dated (it is new to me LOL), but it is working well. I've downloaded Easymap 6 and have it connected and communicating with the ECU.

I've downloaded the data from the ECU, and when I review the data, the engine timing parameters don't seem right to me. Also, I'm trying to learn everything i can about its functions / mapping / options.

Is there some sort of "beginner's guide" that exists for this ECU? Maybe a baseline map that exists for my setup?

You're on your own with that ECU & engine. For SCCA FC class, there are different ECUs and maps required per the rules. I've used and tuned with EasyMap6 (2L Duratec/MZR and 944 16V), so could answer some questions.

You should make sure that the commanded timing is what is actually happening. You will need to use a timing light, and probably make marks on the crank pulley or flywheel. The timing will be a bit hard to see as the wasted spark ignition on the Zetec means that only half the light flashes will be correct (the others will be 180 deg off).

Best bet is to head to a chassis dyno, and run the engine while the laptop is connected. If the dyno operator has some knock-sensing equipment -- then fit that. Adjust ignition timing to achieve best torque, (but back if off if you detect knocking!).

    Good Luck!
