    Default 1967 LeGrand Mk6 FB

After driving near 2000 miles round trip to pick this up and nearly two years of work it is near completion. Been a lot of fun going through completing the restoration. After completing the final little things that are left it will be time to get it on the track for test and shake down. Should be some fun. Then it will be time to move it on to someone else who would give it the driver it needs. It has been a lot of work but I am very happy with the end result.

Congrats. Nicely done! Any thoughts of bringing this to Roebling Road VDCA next weekend for a shake-down?

    Cheers, Joe

So cool to see a vintage car with period graphics.

Matching the engine top to the stripes is brill, something I'd do even though I'm not brill (unless you ask my mom).

    Beautiful.

Graham, very well done! I like the seat cover being period correct and esp the LeGrand wheels or cars that have brand specific wheels like the LeGrand. The attention to detail is what will make this "LeGrand" a "LottaGrands" LOL. Where did you find that early style Lotus head and matching valve cover? Being an Elan kinda guy, I notice that stuff!

Hi Mike. The car apparently was never raced. I contacted the previous owner to who I got it off and who was part owner of HRE Race Engines (Gus Hutchinson and Harold Kretch) . Both guys were Team Lotus drivers back in the day and built the majority of the motors for the series. They were the motor to have apparently.. Harold bought the car because he was personal friends with Red LeGrand. Harold built the engine back in the day but never got around to finishing the car so it never hit the track. I pulled the motor apart and re-gasketed and new water pump then put it back together. It fired right up and man does it sound good. Harold told me he put some really good stuff in there as this was his motor. It has HRE cast into the oil pump, fuel plate block off and finned aluminum pan. The motor is more or less NOS HRE. The head will have been through very little heat cycles which is a huge advantage on these motors.

As for the seat upholstery, that is the original. According to AL James of the LeGrand Registry, this is the most original MK6 he has seen. Anyway, that is a bit of the history.

Said it before, and I’ll say it again. That’s not a race car, that’s a piece of art. Nicely done
