I'm new to the 1600 engine, coming from S2000. I'm installing a crank scraper in my engine. It appears that I should use the cork gasket on the non-scraper side and silicone on the scraper side to get equal pressure on the end seals. Right/ wrong?

    Thanks for your comments.

Uh, wrong, I think. I've been using a bit of gasket sealer between the scraper and the block, then putting the cork gasket over the scraper (which is fairly light gage sheet metal). Works fine, especially if you use the "Right Stuff" gasket goop.

I do it the first way now as my scraper is made of alum and a little thicker. The half gasket method seem to work well. But I have done it the other way with the full gasket and some blue stuff. If you use an alum pan that is a stressed member then they recommend not to use the cork gasket.
