Default Intake Manifold Open Part in Gasket Question

Assuming this is coolant related... on my old motor this was closed off. New motor its open. What is it and what should it be? Thanks.

Under normal road use the manifold is heated, not necessary for race engine.

What would be the best way to seal this back up or is it okay to leave?

IIRC, gaskets from Pegasus lack the opening.

I've seen them filled with epoxy, then use the no-hole gasket. Jake's book suggests something like wadded up alum foil used to take up part of the volume.

Cut a small rectangle from your recent beer can, RTV it in place during installation. If you do it right, it will be independent of the gasket and just stay there for the next time the manifold is off.
