Default Re-soldering brass floats to prevent breaking

I answered a question on this in a PM, and I thought it would be useful to repeat my answer here.

Re-soldering the floats is the way I kept them from breaking off the float arms or leaking.

It's a touchy and tedious process. Too much heat and you create bigger issues.
    Steps below:
    1. drill a tiny vent hole in the solder spot in the middle of each float (prevents sucking in the solder you later apply as the float cools)
    2. apply regular low-tin solder (silver solder requires too much heat) to the area between the floats and their arms to reduce the stress concentration.
    3. solder any areas of the float middle joint that appear not completely soldered
    4. re-solder the vent hole

If you did it right, they should not break or leak (suck in fuel).
