We ran our vintage Alexis Formula Ford at Watkins Glen last weekend in the SVRA event, and, due to an engine problem, the prospect of going home was starting to set in. I shared our woes with Tony Jiminez who was paddocked across from us. Moments later a guy approaches me and introduces himself as Jay Ivey. Certainly known of Jay but never met him.
In short, Jay saved our weekend. He spent hours helping us diagnose the problem which turned out to be a bent intake valve. As it turned out, Jay had the parts and tools to replace the valve. Without him we would have never returned to the racing surface last weekend. And, the guy is humble. He would only take money for the parts and nothing for his time. I value his knowledge and experience way more than the parts. I forced him to take more cash.
The fact that he is willing to help a total stranger in the racing community is inspiring. We certainly don't see this attitude in most businesses these days. Try getting attention from an online vendor.
You know where my motor is going for the next rebuild...Ivey Engines.
Many thanks to Jay.
