Default VD Front inner A-arm bolts

Can someone tell me what is normally used for the bolts through the lower front A-arm rod ends that are inboard in front of the pedals on a VD? On my car it looks like they were 12-point head bolts, but I can't see them very well and they look rounded off. I want to get them out and replaced in the shop rather then risk a struggle at the track.

If they are a 12 point, are they metric?

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Default Bolts

Mike - mine are the same 12 point with a jet nut on the other end. They originally went from the bottom up but I did switch mine to go from the top down with the nut on the bottom. Kind of a pain to work with.

    Thanks,

If they went from the bottom up, there must have been a hole in the belly pan? There's no hole in my belly pan. I didn't see a nut on the bottom. I assumed they were into a trapped mounting bracket right above the floor. I can't get my big head down there to see.

Yes, there are access holes in the belly pan on mine. Can't imagine there wouldn't be a welded insert in the bottom of your frame for the bolt to thread into unless of course someone put the floor pan on with the A arms already bolted in - of course we've all seen crazy stuff like that. Do you have access holes for the V shaped piece over the bottom front of the fuel cell?

Personally I find the access hole and jet nut a better solution, that bolt is a pain to work with and if whatever welded insert has damaged threads the repair job becomes an unreasonable task.

    Default Holes.

Front skid plate must be removed to access the holes in my chassis floor. I also have holes for the v shaped removable structure in front of the fuel cell.

I insert from the bottom because for me it is easier to align the spherical bearing hole and the mounting hole. The skid plate keeps the bolt from falling out. But I have never had one loosen. I use a new jet nut every time it is reassembled.

Thanks for the replies. Having the part number of the bolt is good info.

There actually was access holes in the belly pan - I'm not sure why I didn't see them last time I looked.

I had to machine the OD of a socket to fit into the bore, but I was able to get them loose.

Thanks - I feel better now knowing I can get at them if needed to at the track.

I've got standard socket cap screws (allen bolts) in there right now, but the next time I have a chance, I'm using these:

    MS20005-12 internally wrenching bolts

But I won't be buying them there at $5.50 a pop. I'll wait until they pop up on eBay.
