    Default Drive Shaft Yokes

I've had to replace the drive shaft yokes on my 1973 Hawke Formula Ford. Unfortunately, I cannot find the original yokes, or similar castings, so I've had to get some weld on yokes from Hardy Spicer, and machine them to suit.

Unfortunately, these yokes are a little thinner, and the spline edges are very close to the outside of the casting. Indeed, a previous one cracked in service.

I'm thinking of just grinding out the real thin part, so to totally eliminate potential cracking. What do the experts think?

Original on right, cracked one on the left, and just machined in the middle.

Your new yokes don't appear to have enough material regardless if you radius out the thin portion or not. I would keep looking for a heaver duty yoke.

I agree with Greg. You are looking for trouble grinding out the thin part.

Have you looked at the weld on yokes that Taylor Racing has? Maybe one of these would be better?

I may also have one of these. I own a Hawke DL17 and got with a collection of parts with it. There was a yoke I could not identify. I will look for it. What size are your splines?

    Cheers, Joe

    Joe,

I enquired about the Taylor one, but never heard back from them. The spline is SAE 1 1/4" 6 spline.

Taylor Racing has had some turnover recently. Try Scott Young. He used to work at Taylor. He should be able to help you.

    Scott Young Enterprises.

Sorry, I don't have an email address

I will look for the yoke I have tomorrow. I think it is in my trailer

Not sure if this helps. Here are some photos. I only have one. it is for a 6 spline shaft and the spline depth is 1.4320" deep.

Joe, thanks for going to that trouble, but the design is somewhat different.

I've decided to weld up the thin bits of the ones I've made, and I've contacted Scott Young as plan B.
