    Default Zink Z10 Rear Hubs

I was asked to set up and start a run of new Z10 rear hubs. We have 6 guys on board so far.

If any other Z10 owners want to join, PM me. A 50% deposit by CC is required.

Price is not determined yet - I still have to get a material quote and determine the rest of the costs, but I expect that they will run in the $175-$200 each area.

With my current work load, it will probably be 3-4 weeks before I can start on them, so delivery will most likely be early June.

are these to be new fabrications or machined out of VW parts? and will they include both bolt patterns on the flange or do we specify?

They will be new, probably from either 8620 or 4340, and most likely both hole layouts. Haven't decided on any of that yet - the initial inquiry on whether or not I wanted the project just came about yesterday. I did a couple batches of these hubs in 7075 alu 10 years or so ago for Larry Oliver, so I have to go through the design process again for doing them in steel ( not a big deal, but that will have to wait until I get through my current production runs of differentials and hydraulic perches)

I guess that one of the questions to ask is what bolt patterns does everyone want? I believe that there were three that were used - 3.75, 100mm, and 150 mm. I can probably make them with all three most likely.

I also understand that some of the Lola FFs and their Super Vees may have used the same hubs. Anyone know for sure about that? May as well include those guys in on the build as well.

The standard VW pattern is 130mm, and that's what I'd be looking for, though it would be good to have 3.75" too. (I'm one of the people already in your count.)

I'm interested too and have sent you a PM.

My Z10 has the outboard rear brakes, not sure what that does to the rear hub.

    Thank you

Finally found an old original hub upstairs last night - yup, 130mm is correct. So, if this is what is needed, we could do these with 3.75, 100mm, and 130mm, no problem.

Angus: Hubs for the outboard suspension are basically the same as for the inboard suspension, except that the outboard brake setup has to have the back face of the hub turned to accept the rotor (according to Steve L.). I would need to get the minor dimension of the rotor ID and the flange thickness to make sure that that area is machined correctly.

Have all the necessary info from the following; Eyer, Van Nostrand, Fisher, Kingham, and Loesch. Anyone else who wants some needs to call me with their info asap (317-273-0089)

I'll put in the material quote order tomorrow (I hope), so once I get the quote(a couple more days), I can narrow down the pricing.

Received the material cost this morning (8620). Most likely will not receive it until Friday or next Monday.

Cost per hub will be $190.

I will be making some extras in case we get some late comers.

Almost done the lathe work on these, and will start on the stud hole drilling come Monday for those guys who have already placed their orders. The batch should go to the broacher by the end of the week.

Do you have any photos or screenshots you could post of the parts? I'm wondering how close the inner wheel flange is to a Crossle. Thanks

Here's a drawing of the general dimensions of the 3.75"/100mm bolt circle version. The 130mm version is the same, except that the major OD is 6.4 inches.

Received them back from the broacher this morning. As soon as I finish the job currently on the mill (later this evening or in the AM), I'll get them drilled and tapped. Should be able to ship out on Monday.

I doubled the number ordered of each diameter, so there are plenty available for future purchase.

Shipped out the 3.75 pattern hubs today:

    Eyer
    Fisher
    Van Nostrand
    Loesch
    Duncan

For most of you, you should receive them on Friday.

The 130mm pattern hubs will be drilled and tapped in the AM tomorrow and shipped out in the afternoon - have to work on my road car this evening.

There are 4 leftover hubs than can be finished to either of the stud patterns.

Just a couple of the remaining large diameter version, ready to be drilled and tapped for whichever pattern the next buyer will want (only 4 remaining extras).

Thanks, but they are nothing special - very basic machining.

The 130mm ones weigh about .9 pounds more than the stock cast iron ones, but can (relatively) easily have a pound or 2 machined out of them. Can't say about the small dia ones as I didn't have one to compare to.

Either size will be a lot stronger and more rigid than the CI versions.

Today got me caught up in a bunch of other things that I hadn't planned for, and tomorrow is already taken, so it looks like the 130mm hubs won't ship until Monday. Sorry!

The hubs for Lemon and Kingham are done, boxed, and ready to take to FE tomorrow.

I have 4 hubs left, available for anyone who needs them.

    Default question

hubs received and look great; thanks!
using the old VW hubs, i have been following Steve Lathrop's advice, and installing them on axle shaft with epoxy in the splines. this has been working well to combat loosening. So..do you recommend the same with the new and improved hubs?

That shouldn't hurt anything. Whether or not it is really needed will depend on the wear of the male splines.

I assume these are only Z10 and not any other, like Z16, correct?

You'd have to ask Steve L. about that - I have no idea what the Z16 used.

    Default Z-16 hub per Steve

Garey, this is what Steve put on most (all?) of the Z-16s. Of course, owners could have changed them.
