I am looking at purchasing a car in CA and having it, and anything that goes with it, shipped to Detroit. Any idea what comapnies to contact and approximately what it would cost? I didn't look thru the archives to see if this topic had been addressed previously, so please forgive and point me in the right direction. Thanks.....gmg

www.reliablecarriers.com if the car is worth it to you.. The cost would be ballpark between 1100-1500 for their enclosed shipment service.. They are a class act and VERY careful shippers..

A lot of the car carriers - both open and closed trailers - are part of a consortium and they share assignments when trucks are going in the same direction. In Hemming's Motor News there are always a series of ads for car transport companies. If you call one, you may get a call back from another. Several years ago, I had a car brought in from Denver (sitting on its own open trailer) on an open trailer wrapped with a tarp by the seller. The cost was about $1100.

To get a FC to MI from NM, I flew out on a one-way ticket and rented a truck from Budget. The owner picked me up from the airport and helped me get the car / spares loaded for the drive home. The whole process from door to door took 2.5 days. Cost was just over $1000. It was a neat experience, but I will not do this again knowing that a shipping company can do it for roughly the same cost!

I have two friends who have used YearRound
Transport with good results, and they both
thought the price was pretty good. FWIW.

The guy I bought my car from (in WI) suggested YearRound but I thought I could get a better price. After two weeks of research, I couldn't beat their price. They brought my car to my job and I couldn't have been any happier with their service.
