Default Lotus 61 Frame? Chrome Moly?

I'm having a jig made off of a pristine 61 frame so that I can get the front end of a 61 frame repaired. The welder wants to know if the original frame was made of chrome moly. Because of the wall thickness, the lack of a seam on the tubing and the overall lightness of the frame, he thinks that it was made of chrome moly. Any one know for sure?

    Thanks in advance.

"Let's get the "pounds" out of the cars." - Colin Chapman

Chapman always used the lowest cost materials on customer cars. By "pounds" that meant both weight and pounds Sterling.

Arch Motors built the chassis. There should be an "AM-XX" number on the rear of the chassis somewhere. The welding method was braze welding using sif-bronze rod and a fluxer.

The tubing used was seamless C1015 mild steel. Yes the tube walls are very thin.

All of this is absolutely true. If your fabricator isn't up on this then he needs to have a long conversation with Steve Lathrop or Keith Averil at the very least. Do not let him MIG on your frame and if he does the repair with TIG make sure the heat is controlled so as not to warp the rest of the frame. The repairs can be done with gas brazing, rod from England and the correct flux. Do a search on here for more information.
