    Default Zink Z10-C - SOLD

1976 Zink Z10-C last run as a Vintage CF with VRG at Watkins Glen in 2009, has been stored in my garage since. Has 3 weekends on the engine since rebuild, and run monthly to keep the engine free. I have come to the realization I probably won't be racing anymore and would like to see this car pass to someone that will enjoy it as much as I have. It has been a dependable ride and a lot more capable that the guy behind the wheel. The car sits on old Dunlop treaded tires with Revolution wheels, also a spare set of Revolution wheels with mounted American Racer slicks. The Bilstien shocks were rebuilt (all 4) and sit on Hyperco hydraulic perches. The car has ICP reinforced rockers, ICP lightweight front calipers, Tilton XLT Superstarter, Blind Apex lap timer, MSD rev limiter, Willwood master cylinders and Autometer Ultralite Gauges. The fuel cell was replace with a custom Fuel Safe cell in 2007. Belts are expired and fire bottle is an old Halon unit. May be willing to replace belts and fire bottle to sweeten the deal. Priced at $9500 with the attached spares package. SCCA and FRCCA logbooks. Yes, this car isn't "track ready" but it's not a "beater" either, so please don't make insulting offers.

    Default Great Car

I was in NJ on business about 10-11 years ago. I invited myself to Gary's house to see his Zink while I was rebuilding mine. He was kind enough to let me measure his fuel cell and take photos of how things were arranged on his car. I will never forget his kindness showing me around.

Gary's car has all of the right updates for a competitive CF or Vintage CF car. His prep is very good. The spares package is very generous. It appears there are enough parts to build a good spare race motor, plus all the gearsets you would likely need to race most anywhere.

A Zink will easily fit most people, particularly the big guys. Side mounted rads with inboard rocker arm shocks give this car an aero advantage for the higher speed tracks. Steve Lathrop advised the Z10 was a slippery car for its era.

Buy Gary's car and meet us at Indy at the Open Wheel Festival in June.

    Regards,
    Dan

I am being told by Steve Lathrop the car is in fact a Z10-A , so I have changed the listing to reflect that information.

    Default Question about year

Can you tell me what year the car is? I'm looking for something I can run in vintage Formula Ford rather than be relegated to Club Ford. Thanks for the response

This Z10 is a 1976. It is legal to run as a vintage club Ford under most Vintage organizations. The cutoff date in most clubs for vintage Formula Fords is 1972 I believe. Both classes would run on treaded tires. If I have this wrong , please step in and set the record straight. I guess it all has to do with the rules of the vintage club you intend to run with. Dan Wise should be able to help you figure out what the rules are in California vintage organizations.

    Default 1976 Vintage FF

Depends on the club, but most have a class for these cars. A lot of Zink Z10s running in vintage racing in the US.

SVRA allows the Zink Z10 and other Club Fords on treaded vintage tires.
VARA allows the Zink Z10 and other Club Fords on American Racers
CSRG allowed Club Fords on a limited trial basis last year. We hope to hear an announcement for this year soon.

Club Ford = 1973 to 1981 Formula Fords built before the introduction of the Swift DB1.

The best bet is to check with your local vintage organization. The local rules will vary and acceptance is up to the organization and the specific car presentation.

Treaded tires? These cars are a blast on vintage treads. They communicate back to you and a well setup car can make nice 4 wheel drifts through the sweepers.

    Gary's car is from 1976

Vintage Formula Ford is for cars built before December 31, 1972. So look for a car of that era. The most desirable are compliant to the Monoposto rules and therefore accepted with more organizations. Expect to pay a premium for Vintage FF, more for a fully Monoposto or "SVRA Gold Medallion" car.

    Default Mystery Solved

After a long discussion with Steve and several detailed photos sent, Steve has agreed that the car is in fact been upgraded to Z10-C spec. The shape of the reinforced front rockers and the angle of the photo made it look like an "A" series rocker. Mystery solved.
Listing revised to reflect the "C" upgrade.

    Default New Owner

For all intents and purposes I am the new owner of Gary's Z10.
If anyone can point me in the right direction for set up info, parts suppliers and maintenance/rebuild info I will be thrilled. I am hoping to have the car ready for the Jefferson 500 at Summit in May!

Contact Dan Wise who commented on this post (DanW) , he had a lot of good info that he shared with all of us Zink owners some time back. PM him through the forum, I'm sure he will be glad to send you whatever he has, a great guy even if he sold his Zink. You can also talk to Steve Lathrop from Citation for info and Z10 specific parts, he is also on this forum and may respond to this post too.

Sorry for the confusion folks, the sale is pending, just waiting for the payment to arrive. I talked to the buyer tonight and he has assured me the payment is on the way. My cell phone wasn't working and I wasn't getting any messages, including the buyers message that the payment was on its way.

I am sure that Shakespeare would have said that if he had been a racer instead of just a raconteur.

The Zink is on the way to it's new home in Buffalo with the new owner Rob Bork. Sad to see it go but happy to see it go to a great guy like Rob that is going to put it back on the track where it belongs. Hope he gets as much enjoyment from it as I have in the past.
