Ahh, a Fran Am 1600. Haven't seen one of these in a while. Nice looking car at a fair price, but I wouldn't call it an "entry level race car" as depicted in the ad.

Bob Gelles who's an SCCA member in the DC area ran several arrive and drive cars in the short lived North American Formula Renault Series. If you can reach him he'd have full knowledge of the cars or know where to direct you.

    Default Fran am

Ran a couple of these in the series, wings, sequential shift, reliable, pretty fast! 150 at the end of the straight in Montreal! Really too bad the series was shot down. Nice cars, Don't remember anything exotic about the electronics/ignition.

The ad says Renault Formula Car - not Formula Renault But then again the poster is probably confused.

If it's Tatuus built FR then its what Allen Berg uses - maybe....

Damn, that's not bad at all. Hell of a lot of car for $10k. Hopefully someone picks it up to play in FS or something.

the chassis tag says Fran am, and '2003', #104 that would be within the Fran am series time, not to say that Berg didn't pick up a bunch of these for his operation.

WOW! That could be I guess. I helped him out when he sent his Fran Am team out here to race in Vancouver and also helped him out when he did the big west coast SCCA Nationals tour.

If he has passed away it's a shock as he really wasn't that old. Maybe late 40's early 50's. Does any one know for sure? He was a member of this Forum for many years and raced F500, FC, D/SR and one other class in SCCA.

    Default Saw the Car

I Drove 5200Km round trip down to Florida from Toronto Canada (yes i'm Passionate, Crazy and Stupid to drive that far for a Car)

Saw the car and did a 2 hr inspection observing a Big Transmission Leak oil is puddled on the undertray + Transmission not going into Neutral + Under car crack on the wood plank mount (showing signs of bottoming out, i would NOT know how good or bad as i could not see the whole under car plank)

Who knows how much are New Sequential transmissions go for?

Did you pull the cable when trying to get neutral?
These are the cars Allen Berg uses. I'm often amazed with the ham fisted abuse these cars endure and they just keep going.

Are you referring to the Cable on the Left side? if so, it had come off of its mount, but i did pull on it once (relatively hard enough) while pressing the clutch but it would Not go into "N"

Either something wrong with the Cable connection or an issue with the Transmission!!

Yes, the cable on the left is the neutral/reverse lockout. If it doesn't pull you can't get down to neutral...

Fun yes. Not cheap to run. Absolutely everything has to come from Europe/UK.
