Is this the largest CM class ever, or is there another hay day of the CM class?
It doesn't sound like it or someone would have said something already.
Ben
At 26, it is largest CM field at Lincoln. Previous high for Lincoln was 21 (2009 and 2012).
As for absolute largest entry, that's a good question. Both times I ran CM at Forbes it was larger; 36 in 1997 and 30 in 2002. Perhaps Peter Calhoun or Jim Garry can chime in as were part of the class during that period.

No instructions. No links. Confused.

Oh man, taxing my memory for sure. I will climb into the very hot attic later this week to check my records. But I remember in the early days of the "new" CMod when F440 and FF were combined the entry was pretty high. It may have hit 40 between it's first year (1990) and the next few.

FYI: Here are the two sources of past Solo Nationals results that I have found:

I just dusted off a couple of my old results booklets.
In 1990 Stuart Lumpkin won and I think the car count was around 32 (I didn’t run that year.)
In ‘91, there were 36 entries and 34 starts. Jeff Watson won.
In ‘92, there were 41 entries and 40 starts. Peter Raymond won in a Citation that is still being autocrossed (many owners.)
I think it was ’92 when I worked HS and got to watch Pru slide a Cossworth Vega around? I allways liked that version of the car for some reason.

F440s were in CMod from the beginning. I was on the SEB when CMod was revamped and we placed the 440 into the class along with the vees and S2000s.

Jim, Oops.
To be honest, I did scan the results and no 440’s stood out. I just rechecked and now I see several. How could I forget Jim Murphy and all the others? Getting old(er) and blind.

We're all there brother

Like Pru said, it's a mess, but I'm sure they'll get it straightened out!
Here's a little info, based on the last couple years:
- There will be a link on the right side of the Nationals page, where the run/work order, etc is.
- The link will take you to an interactive map of the Lincoln site. It will have locations for tech, registration, courses, TnT course, PADDOCK, etc.
- In the Paddock area, each parking spot will be color coded to designate if it's available or reserved.
- To reserve a spot, you select one of the available spots, enter you information (scca number, name, or something like that???) and submit your request. The spot will change color to designate that it's reserved.
- If you hover over a reserved spots (or maybe click them), the application will tell you who is in that spot. Use this to confirm your reservation from the last step
- There's a search function to help you find other people.
I thought it was a little clunky but overall, it worked pretty well.
As you can imagine, adding more rows means updating the application, which takes time...
good luck! Oh, and don't hold me to this stuff, it's based on my foggy memory and things will probably change a little.

Hello all!
I'm looking to get into a CM car in the coming year (maybe 2 years). I am currently running in a DP Miata. I am wondering if I could test fit in a few chassis at nationals. I am 6' ~220 lbs and have a largish shoe size (13). From my research, the Van Diemen chassis looks like the best option for me but I would like to check. If any of you would be agreeable to a test fit one evening at nationals let me know. Good luck to everyone, see ya in Lincoln

You are welcome to test fit my Reynard. I bet you'll find my car is the roomiest of anything in grid.
Andy
Thanks Andy! I'll stop by your grid and figure out where you ended up in paddock. Good luck!
Your welcome to try on my Van Diemen. Bring skinny shoes, pedal box is <10" wide. Size 13 may have your toes in conflict with the sway bar end links.
Ditto on the skinny shoes. My car is wide enough it has a dead pedal. My size 11 feet can operate the pedals, but not when I'm wearing running shoes. A little work could be done to reconfigure the footbox in my car.
I am doing a Tuesday / Wednesday work assignment, so after we leave impound I can give the grand tour of the car - no rush to stow everything.
Andy
Your welcome to try mine too, it's essentially the same as Eric's (ewcmr2). I suspect that David's shoes are about as big as can work, so you can try those shoes too.
I had an '88 Reynard that was pretty spacious too, so that's a good option if you can find one. In fact, my car was sold to a Dude in Fort Worth and then it mostly disappeared, maybe you could find that one??? I wish I could remember his name....
Thanks, I'll bring my skinny shoes and try as many as I can. Sounds like my feet are the main problem. I'm flying in Wednesday but will have a pretty full schedule. Thursday or Friday would be ideal. I work 3 and run 5. Looks like y'all run 2 work 5 so if the morning is easier/preferred I'm flexible.
I'm co-driving Steve Hudsons DP car #182. I'll try not to hit any cones for those of you working course
Don't worry about the cones you may hit, worry about the cones that will be down accidentally when you pass by, if you don't pay me now HEHE!
Ben
A few of the CM/FF racers I know will buy a couple of sizes smaller racing shoe to fit into the foot box better. Running shoes are a no no in a formula car. They are too wide. Even with my small size 8 feet, I can not wear running shoes. When I autoX my FF, I bring my race driving shoes and will change into them for the runs and then change back to other shoes for working on course and walking around.
A racing shoe a couple sizes smaller is OK for a 30 minute race or a 45 sec solo run-you are not planning on running a marathon in them.
My racing shoes are so small my second toe is actually resting on top of my big toe when in the shoe. I wish my parents had taped my feet when i was young.
There has been a change in run/work order. Heat 6 has been consolidated into earlier heats. CM will work Heat 5.
I will be driving too! See also my related post http://www.apexspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74968

man... I wish I was going...
And Schilling! (Maybe he'll be done with titanium body mods next year)
My Dad asked about how the elevation change will affect the car. He expects it will run rich since I'm going from 14 ft to 1100 ft.
Please share your experience changing jets for Lincoln?
TeamFRD-1988 Van Diemen RF88-1267 FF1600 Solo:CM#99/199 http://yspect8.weebly.com
David,
Since we started running in Lincoln, I've never changed jets, and I have not noticed a major drop in engine performance. Then again, the sites I normally run are in the ~600' (Oscoda, Toledo, Peru) to 1000' (Wilmington) range. Perhaps someone with a similar elevation change to yours can provide some feedback.
Chris Pruett
Swift DB1
Back in the day.... I bought my Reynard from a guy in Upstate NY, it was jetted by Quicksilver for, I assume, that elevation (a few hundred feet or so) I live in Colorado so our sites are generally > 5200' elevation. I struggled for a little while when restarting a warm engine. Ultimately, I leaned out the jet involved with the idle circuit (It's been way too long for me to remember the specifics) and then it started fine. Note that it always started, it would just take some futzing and some cranking. I suppose it would have run a little better and made a little more power if I had tweaked the jetting, but it ran fine, it never did anything bad. That experience suggest to me that going up 1000 feet won't be a problem. Maybe not absolutely optimum power, but I wouldn't expect any problems.

You can try to make a street car into an autocrosser or you can do a lot less work and make a race car into a great autocrosser
I have already given it more thought. If I could find a co driver from this area, I could make it work. Lots of time to set that up. I am getting too old for the 28 hr straight through drive alone.

I asked the guy at Pierce Manifold here in Calif. and he didn't think it would something I should mess with, it's only 1176 feet at Lincoln so...? he thought that 2200 feet could see a change like 155 main to a 150 main, I asked if they made a 152 or 153 main and he said no but you could drill out a 150 to a 152.5, I "LOL" He thought that maybe with a really good engine making 115 hps you could see 1 to 2 hps, not a gain in Hps just regain the lost Hps but you have to know if it working for you and if you get it wrong you lose more Hps then you gain.
