Looking to install a lightweight starter to bring my Vee closer to minimum weight. Spent some time searching but see lots of different ones. Can someone give a recommendation for a part number and maybe even supplier?
Thanks,
Bob

Take a look at this thread over on the FV site: http://www.formcarregistry.com/inter...p=32620#p32620
It has p/n's and suppliers.

I am out of these starter drives at the moment . If there is enough interest I will consider making another run. I need to make 10 at a time to make them as cost effective as possible. These drives replace the stock 12v drive on the stock 12v permeant magnet starter ('67 and up). I will have to check the price on the 6v and 12v drives to determine the new sell price as I marry the two.

Let me know if you plan to do a run!! Easy weight fix for me and I can extend the holiday drinking and eating. Thanks!

If Dave doesn't get enough orders to build. Here is the one we used and sold for several years.

For a FV you want the IMI-105 model.
I read the 2 linked threads, but I'm still a little lost.
I understand that Dave makes the drives only, but which starters are the "Bosch permanent magnet" starters? I assume they are just the "new" factory parts for the last of the AC Beetles?
I think I'd be game for at least one drive to throw on an even lighter starter.

The starter is a SR 15 N Bosch .1967 and up. I have also used the drive on the Chinese copy.. Watch ebay 59- 99 bucks. Some starters are Mexican some are Brazilian made I would have to check my notes to see which is the lightest
Dave
thanks, Dave.
according to your older post in the 2nd link, "eights very on these starters, lightest being the Mexican 6.14 lbs, Chinese at 6.76lbs. and Brazilian at 7.76 lbs. Hi Torque at 8.88lbs. stock 6 volt at 13.20 lbs. The Brazilian are the most readily available."
I will keep an eye out for the Mexicans, if possible.

Dave: Have you made another run of the starter drives. If so I am interested in one. Let me know.
