    Default ApexSpeed 2015 League Race #4 - VIR - Jan 5th

After a runaway victory, Roger closes up the points gap on me. Joe and Chris had a the best battle of the race keeping within sight of eachother for most of the race. A couple of valuable lessons realized by Jac and myself... A sim wheel should really be used instead of a keyboard and don't test equipment right before the green drops...

Not sure I will be back in town by the 29th either.

Do we want to push it back a week maybe so everyone can return from holidays?

That works for me! But we might have to rearrange the schedule for the awards banquet.

Either date is fine with me. Given my record or conflicts or game problems with zero finishes so far, I don't have room to be picky about the date.

Seeing that half of us wouldn't be able to make it, we'll postpone it. Should we bump it back two weeks to be clear of NYE as well?

I agree with this! It gives me time to get back, get settled, and actually spend some time learning the track.

Pffffffft. Totally over-rated. It turns here.... It turns there.... a little up hill... a little down hill and in the end you cross the line wondering how the hell Keith and Roger are several seconds a lap faster than you are.

The 5th should be okay for me.

Very sneaky. Make the exit of Oak Tree look like dirt. But when you drive over it, it is an exit strip. That is worth a bit of time. Oops. Maybe I should not have shared that.

That said, drop a wheel on that exit (onto the green) and prepare to spin across the track. Do I get bonus points for spinning all the way to the tent village?

I like this track. Lots of opportunities for mistakes which makes getting a fast lap a big task.

Is the server down cannot find it to do some laps?

Are we doing the GP layout if so I am in troubles as my lap times seem to be a few seconds off the pace.

Thanks for letting me know. It must've rebooted for updates. It's up now. Yes, we're running the GP course.

We should be expecting me to crash every 3-4 laps if my testing was any indication.

I should be there. I know... I know... I have said that before.

By the way, I liked the post above this not because of its content but because I hit the wrong button. After reading the post, it is too funny to have liked it so I left it as is. No offense intended.

That is binding right? If it is said here on ApexSpeed, then Roger has to do it. Who is with me?

Congrats on your win last night Eric. I tried to hold up Keith as long as I could after the first turn carnage...j/k, I was just trying to get out of the way as quick as I could.

I say each week I'm going to test and get the pile to turn, and each week I get to Tuesday of the race and think oh crap I did nothing again.

Yep. Still not feeling good about the quality of that win for that reason. I really did not expect the grip level to be that low. I did practice starts before the race and knew where my brake marker was for the speeds on the start. I thought I nailed it. Instead, I slid wide and nailed Keith which solved my problem as it bounced the car in the right direction but transferred my problem to Keith who from the rear view mirror looks like he ended up in the grass. Again, sorry Keith.

I ran clean from there until about 4 to go when I spun at Oak Tree. Keith overtook me on the uphill straight but then gifted it back when he got tail happy on the downhill right hander. My spin in Oak Tree made me realize exactly why in a real race car we wear helmets. It is because after throwing away a 15 second lead, I slapped myself in the face.

Thanks to all for a fun race (I really like that track). I will try to make a cleaner get away on the next one.

From my vantage point in the back row it didn't look bad, I was glad to see Keith got his clutch fixed and I didn't drill him on the start again.

I took Keith out on the last lap for a win at CMP a couple of years ago. Certainly not something I tried to do, but it happened. You don't have an asterisk next to your points for last night.

    Congrats again.

Fun race overall- even though I made a few big mistakes, VIR is a fun track and allows for a few lines for us all to cope with. The start was fun- I think we were four wide, but since I was on the inside, I felt braking sooner than later on the cold tires would be in my best interest.

Had I not spun four times, I think I would have been decent, but with the sliding that proved to be fast around Oak Tree and the following corner that proved to be quick, I wasn't able to control the car as much as I would have liked with downshifting and braking. There were two occasions in which I had my fingers on three keys at once, which led the car to go straight-on, I definitely need to get the wheel out for the next go-round.

    Cheers,

    Jacques
