    Default '69 Legrand Mk6 - SOLD

    1969 Legrand Mk6 for sale

It has a huelin transaxle. It has a custom shell but it is not stock. It has been sitting for 20 years without a motor. It has some rust. It comes with some gears and a race head for a ford pinto motor which was what used to be in it. It needs some tlc but a great find for a project person. I am asking 5,000.

I have as many pics as you would like to see. Email at shenry001@bak.rr.com or text 661-201-0927.

    Thanks

    Default FB?

Those look like 10 and 14 inch wheels. Is that a Formula B? If so, helluva deal for $5K

In 1969, Formula B (2) would have had Cosworth engines (1600 cc) for the hot set up and putting out about 220 BHP. The Pinto would have been way out classed. I suspect it was running in some other 'lower' class. Or, a class unique to the USA

Mk 6 was a FB car. It was used as the basis of the Mk 7 which was the F5000. Those should be 13" dia. wheels.

with those tires and that radiator, are you sure that's not a mk 7 F-5000?

Not a Mk7. Would have LG transaxle and engine mounts for a Chevy. Top of rear bulkhead is not removable. Mk 7 has side pods that are the fuel tank.

Looks to me like originally a FB car. Then converted to pinto for autocross. Notice two names lettered on the side. I see a cut tube (left roll hoop support) to allow room for pinto carb on left side.
Certainly has enough rubber to look cool.

Default Right car, wrong time, wrong coast

Nuts! I'm sitting here east of the Mississippi with a Hewland Mk to Alfa Twincam gearbox adapter hanging on the wall of my garage.

That would be a terrific suspect for an Alfa transplant, but all my $$$ are tied up in the Lola DS/R.

Looks like a Formula B. Probably Alfa Powered originally. Could be an interesting project. This is what it should look like done.

    Default Legrand mk6

This Legrand does have 13" wheels and was used for autocross in the states. The bar was removed to make room for the Holley carb. It has been recently redone. I enjoy listening to your comments about it. I knew if i put this on here i could get some real answers from real people! Thanks! i was hoping to get some ideas for where the chasis numbers might be located? Any ideas? I have looked behind the dash panel. This car was actually taken to Red Legrand to have a new shell made so i know it is a true mk 6 with adjustments, but the shell was never made. I was hoping to sell it but i know people like chasis numbers. Is there any specific pics of the car i could take to verify its authenticity?

    Thanks

look for numbers on the roll hoop and also both the front and back of the firewall. Might find something.

Lotus Twincam was popular in 69. Alfa was used with some cars.

All the FB cars I saw had FT200. Put a 998cc MAE or SCA in it and call it an FC. Pre SV,ff2000,BDJ style.

As far as I know - MK5 and MK8 look pretty similar externally.

More likely a twin cam lotus....BDA's were pretty rare in FB cars of that time... but you may well be correct. Def not a pinto

The Mk6 came about in 1967, and without any serial dating on the car, I have to say we can call the car a 1967 as the 'what was the hot ticket' in terms of engine and go from there. Then again, I'm just a stickler for starting points.

Here is a link to the Formula B results in the US and Canada from 1965 to 1974.

    http://www.oldracingcars.com/fb/

There are only a few Legrand MK6's listed. One car driven by Dale Sebring appears to have been run with both a Lotus twin cam and Alfa engine in 1969. I would say you could put either engine in the car and be period correct. I would personally use a Lotus twin cam.

    Cheers, Joe

Was your MK6 and original Formula B car or was it converted from something else? Just trying to understand that the MK6 cars were FB cars.

Yes the Mk6 was a continuation of the popular Mk3. They ran in the SCCA Class B - 1300 to 1600cc's and a 5 speed gearbox. Not many Mk6's were built. Mine is an original Mk6.
