He started racing about 30 years ago, bought an FC 10 years ago, and along with the help of a pretty good group of people has grown the FC class in the northwest to the largest open wheel class up here.
He is the only person to win the ICSCC formula continental drivers championship since the class was officially recognized 4 years ago.
Last year was the most difficult year he has had in racing, first in getting to the runoffs, then showing up with a new car that had some issues that couldn't be resolved by race time. He finished somewhere in the top 20, marking his best runoffs finish ever (at least he didn't get hit this time).
This year was a different story. Although he dealt with some mechanical gremlins this year he won the NWFC championship while splitting the season between a Pinto and a Zetec, set the fastest lap of any class on ORP's ccw circuit even though he had never driven it before, and finished on the podium in every race in which he completed the first lap this year, winning 7 races.
He also put on the race weekend in Spokane as the club president for the 4th year in a row. All of this while helping me and my family out while our third child was born prematurely the day after ORP in May, then we moved in to his house while looking for one of our own for the longest 4 months ever.
Hell of a year.
Congratulations Greg Coffin. You have definitely earned it. Now please cut your hair.
