Default ApexSpeed 2015/16 League Primer - Fun Run - Daytona

Ok, as a test to make sure everything works fine, a week from today (Tuesday) we will be having our first event on the Daytona Roadcourse. It will be a fun run to make sure everyone can connect and so we can refresh everyone as to what our race process is. The race will be at 9pm Central Time. I'll also like to announce that I'll be taking skins for anyone who wants to use something different than what we've used in the past or what comes standard with the SRF mod.

I'll be there, using my now-defunct coulda-shoulda-woulda been my 2013 F5 #00 livery that was used prior.

Are you guys using Iracing or Rfactor for the league?

Becker is on Iracing, but we don't have any other sim right now.

It is on my calendar. If nothing goes wrong between now and then, I will try to make my debut... hopefully not a spectacular debut due to a bone headed move

Just a reminder.... Tomorrow night as a full functionality test... Test your ability to get into the server, connectivity, server performance, etc...

Will will not be using any skins submitted to me recently so please pick an existing skin.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that. I noticed on Saturday that Comcast finally pulled the plug on the home sites so anything that was being hosted (like my Hotlaps page) was broken... I relocated it to the ApexSpeed server so it's up and running again. Nice lap Roger! I doubt i'll have any time before tomorrow to put any laps in, but I'll try.

It wasn't a legit lap I straddled the curb coming out of the bus stop upon review.

I can't seem to find any time in sector 2 I am always about 0.4sec down on your time in that sector.

Do any of you know if I can install rF1 and rF2 on the same computer and have BOTH OF THEM BE FULLY FUNCTIONAL?? I have rF1 and it works great. Just a little leary of trying to install rF2 on it although I'd LIKE to check out the Indy Car configuration at IMS and it's not available for rF1. I don't want to lose my rF1 capability.

I'm always up for a fun run, although I've been working like a maniac lately and my workouts have been suffering. Great way to break in my new zero-drop Asics.

So...5K? One lap around Daytona? At night, with the lights on? Awesome. Anything would be good, as Carl Spackler sez....

I have to figure out if I'm going to keyboard it or dust off my wheel...might be my biggest setup decision of the season...

Thanks for the test night all. It was good fun. Roger, that was me on lap two. No worries at all. Just a game after all. I could not text after finishing the race. I am sure it is user error.

I had a strange problem mid race. Do we simulate failures? I swear it was like I had a motor letting go. I could run down Mr. Dunn in the infield but as soon as we hit the oval, he was gone. If we are not simulating failures, then perhaps I have a controller problem that did not allow full throttle. For the last third of the race, my laps were about 2 ~ 2.5 seconds slow and my shift points were much further down the road.

Oh well. It was still fun. Now off to pack for the Big Bore Bash at Willow Springs. Hopefully I run better there.

    Thanks again all.

Sorry about that eric I saw you lock up and go deep so i thought i would sneak underneath but you gathered it up quick and came back by that time i was plowing your way already.

Still don't know how you guys can be 0.5 sec quicker than me in sector 2 tho?

Good test you guys. I definitely need to shake the rust off of my "race mode"... My pit stop was a disaster as well.

We do not have simulated failures of any kind of. Damage is on though, but you really have to hit something hard in these tanks for it to effect anything. You may want to check the pots in your pedals to see if they are failing. I've had that happen to me on my old Driving Force Pro wheel where the whole pedal system wore out.

It seems my normal line in that corner is locking up and diamonding off the corner. I know, not traditional but after trying different lines, it was the fastest I could do. Like I say, no worries, it is just a game. The beauty of a simulator is no repair bills. I had fun and that was all I was looking for. I look forward to the season. Maybe I can figure out how to drive.

Thanks Keith. My wheel is probably 20 years old. It is a logitech MOMO and was not top of the line back then. Hmmmmm nice new computer controller or a good portion of a new set of tires for the FF????? The choice just makes itself.

That was fun Eric, some good clean side by sides several times, you were 1.5 secs faster in the infield, luckily I was able to put about the same on you in the oval. Not sure if it made a difference in setup, but I used the basic setup mode and trimmed for all speed. I was hitting 116 at the end of both straights. I was also running as light of fuel loads as possible, as you could see it was a little to light on the last lap.

Nah, I downshifted before the car was slowed down enough.

There were several highlights for me:

    1. Roger's pre-start start had me giggling.

    2. Leading with a keyboard rather than a wheel setup might be the highlight of all my years racing with the ApexSpeed sim group- the lock-or-lock steering means the hairpin corners are completely trash for me, but I could out brake rather easily when I wanted to. After bump drafting Roger through the trioval, I let him have a good deal of room into T1, as I knew at that point he was a good second faster than me.

    3. The first time I ran an entire SRF race with ApexSpeed and did not spin- I ran into the wall at the bus stop once and had a little fender banging, but it was a clean go of it.

Keith, I may alter my livery- when is the deadline?

See you all in two weeks!

What you do with the keyboard is amazing. I've tried several times when wheel was down or not hooked up, the lock to lock is very hard to control.

You should be a keyboard musician !

The last Rfactor race start i did was the Apex race at Mosport in 2013 so I think I may have forgotten the start procedure.

I was watching the timer it hit zero and i dropped the hammer then it got real lonely.

So I stopped thinking maybe Keith would restart it.

Then the field blew by me and I casually rolled away in chase.

    Joe,

Little did you know my love of 1970's synth-pop...

Its weird, but I started racing offline with Sierra's Grand Prix Legends in 1998 without a wheel. Very difficult game-but the more and more hours I poured into it after school, the more it felt like actually driving a car (there is a whole lot of tiny steering movement) but I couldn't keep up with the Brabhams or the Loti, or DSG in the Eagle...

Then a friend gave me his non-force feedback Microsoft wheel and pedals, of which I used for a good deal of ApexSpeed's F3 season, as well as SRF and FA, which I left after getting fed up with the Boxer chassis (should have just switched to a March or a Ralt.)

The last race I ran with AS in 2012-13 was Mid-Ohio with the wheel and pedals, and without force feedback, I felt I had an even lighter sense of car control then the keyboard and spun a few times. Thus, the Microsoft setup has sat in my basement ever since.

If we're going to go to tracks with tight bends, I'll have to bust it out to be in the hunt, but for flat out tracks like Spa, WGI or Monza, I'm golden.
