    Default 1978 Lola T-440

I am reluctantly selling my unmolested 1978 Lola T-440. Original body work, engine placement, etc. All paperwork to original sales receipt form Carl Haas, including all original manuals and diagrams.

Original owner did not use the car much. In 2005 it was bought and restored in CA. It was raced there for a few years then purchased by me in December of 2008. It has been professionally maintained. It has seen mostly member days at VIR and about 5 races. Even in my novice hands (my first race car) it has been a solid mid-pack car since day one with a podium finish in class at Gold Cup last fall. Very well balanced, very fun, gorgeous car (arguably one of the best looking formula fords made).

The car has been prepped for the 2013 season as is currently being fitted with a new fuel cell. Ted Wenz- built engine pulls strong, telemetry shows no sign of slowing down. Car needs nothing to hit the track this spring.

2 sets of wheels, jumper, some other misc. spares.

    $20,500 obo

    Default Beautiful 440

Previously JD Stewart owned this car and Sabina took care of the car out on the west coast. It got nothing but the best. A beautiful car...(but then I'm biased).
There is more pictures in the race-car.com archives from the previous sale, a number of years ago at Fontana.

That's correct, I bought it from JD sight unseen (except those pictures). Both he and the car are top notch! If you see him tell him I said hello!

    Default Jay's Lola

Quite often Jay and I have been garaged together at VIR. I know its a cliché to say you could eat your dinner off this car, but that is the level of his presentation. The car is immaculate and extremely well looked after.

For someone interested in such a beautiful race car this is one to seriously consider.

Good luck with the sale Jay.

    Default lola

FWTW, Sabina does a wonderful job with car prep. JD had one of the very nicest FF's racing out here and he did well with it. You can't go wrong with this fine car.

If you see JD please tell him I said hello! It has been a great car and I hope will do for another what it has done for both of us.
    Best regards,
    -J.

I had a request for some diagrams, so while scanning them I thought I would put one or two up. They won't scan complete as they are 10 x 15 inch original schematics from Lola that came with the car, 8 in total. To me they are perfect functional art for the garage. This is just to give you an idea of the completeness of the package.

    Default Frame and sell!

Those would make great garage art, I'd gladly pay for copies so I could frame them for my garage. Anyone else have schematics like this?

I too would like copies of the drawings to hang on my walls.

    Another update:
Getting ready to move the car home for safe winter keeping. At this point, any requested tests (inspection, compression, leakdown, dyno) could be done but will be more difficult once it gets to the house.
She needs a new racing home for next year!

    Bump with an added bonus:

Buy the car, and get three days of full race support for the Gold Cup at VIR (September 26-28). That's complete prep and support including telemetry and video evaluation with Victor Seaber, one of the best driving and racing coaches anywhere (the car has Traqmate and sync'd GoPro). You just arrive and drive!

I don't know the actual paint code for the yellow, but the original owner told me he selected it and ordered it that color. I would have to ask him for more details. I don't remember seeing the paint code in the paperwork, but I will look.

I am so pleased with how this turned out, I just had to post it here.
Fully integrated simulator, tunable pedals, direct drive steering, sequential shifter using the original shift mechanism.
Absolutely zero modifications to the car beyond dis-assembly, in 2030 it will be 50 years old and still in original spec; then I might revive this thread. Until then, I will continue to enjoy "driving" it!

    Default Cool!

Nice setup, now you need to add cylinders to simulate braking, acceleration, etc.

    Here are a few:
I removed the steering rack, made a steel plate that bolts in where the rack went to support the steering system. It JUST fits under the body work. We made a steering shaft extension with an integrated bushing and carrier that bolts to the factory support. The cable for the buttons and paddles comes through the steering shaft. We made a pretty simple steel rack to support the pedal actuators, which I separated from the original sim pedals. I then got threaded rod and rod ends to adapt to each pedal. I measured the position in my real car and set everything as close as possible to what I have in the real world. I converted the shifter to a sequential (both because an H-pattern would be devilish to convert, and because my Elan uses one). It's kinda sloppy, just like the real thing

I can unbolt all of the sim equipment and convert it back to use on a more traditional sim chassis, and of course the race car is unmolested. You can take this stuff as far as you want: you can get adapters that pull data from the game, convert it and send it to your factory tach and other gauges. Or you can buy gauges that will fit the factory openings. Either way, you can get the entire dash to interact.
