    Default Trailer modification

I like the trailer because it is light and the car fits...however as you can see it has to roll up and over the tire/fender wells to get on. I am going to have to rewire it and was at TSC when I saw axles complete that were in the $130-150 range. Question is...how much would it take to put a longer axle on and bring the wheels out wider so maybe the car could just go on and clear the fenders?http://www.apexspeed.com/forums/atta...3&d=1434129320

Default It looks like you could

If the axle track was increased so the trailer tires were each 1 inch inside the frame rail, wouldn't your FV fit between them with at least a couple inches to spare?

Finding a reliable welder to cut and lengthen your axle, add framing to support floor and mount fenders to would be the only issue I see. Talk to a welder, then do fabrication yourself, and get it all welded out by the pro.

There is more then an inch gap between the outside of that "frame" rail that forms the fender and the wheel/tire. There is actually a fair amount of space in there.

I have a similar problem with my wide-track Corvette and trailer. I've looked at, and considered Torsion Axles as a possible solution. Might do a quick search on the inter-web before all that rebuilding welding, etc. Still need to get the tape out!

Going to Bloomington Gold today. Will measure the gap from wheel to the side rail when I get back.

About 6 1/4 " from sidewall to the inner side of the rail.

Being a trailer I guess any size wheel tire combo that fits under the fender would work?

Well if I can easily move the wheels out so the car will roll right on, then I could probably go with a larger tire pretty easy too at the same time.

Default Great; now reality check time

After everything's done, it will have been improved, but it's market value will still be nil.

IIRC, Light utility trailers go for ~$850 round these parts.

    Default OK, Apples vs Oranges

Something about like this was out the door (tax, title) for ~$1000 2 years back; was purchased with a rear plank instead of hinged ramp grate. 2x8s instead of AL deckplate, no ramps, tie downs. Definitely not a race car trailer, but can function as one Trailer Man (18965 Kuykendahl Rd. Spring, TX 77379 281-379-2068) is a dealer for http://www.texastrailersupply.com/si...s_saut0008.htm

FV would not be a load problem.

10ft. Save your money and but a trailer that is big enough. Keep looking here in the classifieds. Race ready trailers pop up all the time.

I stuck in the watch list. Not too far away from home.

I am also working on mine as things go, technically have it all listed for sale but working on it to improve things in the meantime. Pulled all the old wire and some of the lights. Going to put all new wire in and swap some of the lights out and maybe put in LED lights. Got the VIN plate in which is banged up pretty bad (trailer is from 1972) so it may need to be replaced but should be able to get plates now.

Being that the trailer is from 1972 and the car from 1964 I wonder how long the two have been together?

I looked underneath the trailer and saw that is has what looks like a simple axle with a leaf spring on each side. Not sure how the mounting would line up but it sure would make things much more simple if the wheels were pushed out 4" or so at least on each side.

Measured the rough usable deck on the trailer...bigger then I thought. Roughly a 6x11 give or take a little bit. Measured from the sidewall to the angled piece that forms the wheel fender and came up with something like 3" so that would be 6" overall if the tires came out that much more on each side. Not sure that would be enough, but that would still mean the inner most section of that metal frame work for the fender well would have to be cut out and moved or left off.

How wide is your tire/rim? Unless you cut the perimeter frame you will need tihis area to remove the tire....
