    Default March 87C

Is there any way to check the history of March 87C-5? I am looking for race history and general information on this or similar cars.

March 87C s/n 05 was Josele Garza's #55 Machinist Union/Bryant/Schaefer's Beer car that made the Indy 500 in 1987, finishing 17th. Hard to say race-by-race before or after that. The Machinist Union team kept a 87C for use into 1988, but it didn't make the show at Indy that year, so I can't be of much help off hand without doing some intense research.

Wasn't that the chassis that he "flew" during practice that year?

Oops - that was Pancho Carter.

Or, call the IMS Museum and ask to speak to the historian. Is it still Don Donaldson?

I would doubt highly that the IMS museum knows any of the specific chassis histories unless it is one in their inventory- only March and GT&T knew which chassis went to whom, and after that only the teams ( and tech inspection) knew what chassis was used where. I KNOW that GT&T didn't preserve and pass on any of that documentation, and knowing March, it wasn't preserved and passed on from there either.

the book "March: The Grand Prix & Indy Cars" by Alan Henry lists 87C results by driver not chassis number

If anyone is in need, I have a set of wheels and full set of uprights, axles and various misc parts for an 87 March. These are from Michael's 87 Indy car. I got them directly from Kraco many yrs ago.

I thought the speedway kept track of entry by tub number - or the USAC register number.

Except that they would only have it for the Speedway entries.

Dick Jordon at USAC has the bible of all entries until 1998
