Default 1969 Lola Super Vee A-Mod

This is a chance to get a very cool, very well developed car.

The Lola chassis was cut and shortened for quicker handling when modified for autocross. Engine is a 2.8L Type 4 stroker motor, with case modified for 6 studs per cylinder instead of the stock 4 studs. Dry sumped. Transmission is a modified VW Autostick to run a torque converter. With the supercharger, makes about 350 very responsive horsepower. The builder was a machinist, and the car comes with notebooks of sketches, designs and information. Weight is about 950lbs.

This is a built car, turn-key and ready to race (with some new tires and a once-over).

    $13,500

It is the steering rack itself (aluminum) and it's aluminum brackets that sandwich some mounting ears on the frame at either end of the rack. This way the rack could be adjusted up or down with shims to change the bump steer, I believe. I suspect it was a different/quicker ratio rack than original, not sure if different ratios were available with the original racks?

This car and the Royale RP18A ( http://www.apexspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67380) were owned by the same person. He took the aluminum rear wing off of the Lola and installed the composite wing from the Royale. The Lola had a larger supercharger and was extremely quick. I believe the Lola originally was a west coast car. This is a great Solo or hill climb special.

    Good luck with the sale

Thanks - we've got all the A-Mod parts for the Royale (we think) but would rather see that one restored. This one is together and was successful enough like it is, that we think it should stay that way.

I have another set of 3 piece Revolutions that were on the Royale, I believe, but are crazy wide, so might throw them in with this Lola if the buyer wants. This car could use them.

I believe this car was built by Colan Arnold (now VP of membership for SCCA) when he lived in Des Moines, IA. It started as a T252 in pretty stock form. I believe I saw it at one of the first events he ran with it in May or June of 1983. The car became increasingly more modified over time.

In the late 80's Jim McKamey out of south bend was running very short wheel base formula cars. Consequently both Colan and Greg Scharnberg decided at around the same time to shorten the frames in their autocross cars. (Greg had the ex Nick Craw / Dorsey Schroeder Brabham BT35). I think the supercharger went on the car in the late 80's

I believe the car went to Tom Berry in the San Diego area in the early 90's with a spare T250 chassis which was raced by David Hornocker out of Des Moines. I believe Colan started running an RT4 at that time.

Had not seen or heard of the car in years.

Mark, you are correct, this was Colan Arnold's car. The car was eventually purchased by Dr. Jim Davis and brought to Newport News, VA. Jim's son-in law, Steve Klute, built the transmission and they ran the car in solo competition into the mid to late 90's. Glenn Bunch (http://glennbunch.com/) ended up with both the Royale and the Lola.

If memory serves, and it's been since the mid 90's (in Salina) since I've been to nationals, but I don't think there are any rules about vehicle age or anything. A-Mod was basically, a weight limit and wheel-driven with 4 wheels type of class.

That said, if you start from scratch, how many years development do you want to count on?

Lots of cool info and feedback, but it's still available. Trades considered.
