Ciao,

That was cool, but the picture made me feel really old.

Oh yes he still has it.
I'd like to see him show up at one of the Majors races in the Galmer, that would be awesome.
I've heard rumors there's talk of this happening.
I'd do whatever I had to do to be there also.

I was always a fan of "little" Al. When the Galmer was announced I assumed he would be driving one at some point. He was on the pit wall at the 2013 runoffs taking in the F1000 race. We talked a bit....and there was no doubt the interest was there.
Jerry Hodges
Jeff Andretti has some interest in F1000 also. He sees it as a better choice for Karters moving up than any other class.
Pretty cool how F1000 has attracted this amount of attention. Now we just need some of the cars that are gathering dust in the garage to show up at the races.

It would be GREAT to have "little Al" driving the Galmer in a few SCCA races. The Unser family are all great people, and love the sport of racing.
Al Unser Jr. in a Galmer at an SCCA Majors Race would really bring an extreme amount of interest and excitement to this class.
Why not, have a person like Al Jr. racing? I am sure that he would enjoy it. He has close ties to the Galmer group, and it would be great.
It would be a real test for the amateurs to race against such a giant as Al Unser Jr.
A few years back when I was racing my Phoenix F1000 in Albuquerque Jim Guthrie stopped by to provide a few tips to me. Albq, NM has some great racers, and they are all just regular guys who have the passion for racing whether they are retired or not.
So glad to see the Facebook post.
Al Jr. getting ready to do his thing. First time we've worked on a car together for 12 years! And trust me....he's still got it!
A little car setup and fiddling then:
1m 42sec's
1m 27sec's
1m 24sec's and boom, a new local track record in three laps!
Well, he is Al Unser Jr. what Else?

It's too bad that the mindset of too many top pro racers is that running in the lower classes is beneath them, or that their sponsors won't allow it. Used to see a fair amount of that way back when, and occasionally still do in oval racing.
Hell - Bob Lazier used to run FVs in between his Indy car races!
Gary Bettenhausen and Mel Kenyon drove FSV when we first went to the ovals with USAC. It was really great fun to run with those guys. They were outstanding teachers.
At the height of the flat bottom Formula Atlantic days it wasn't uncommon to see several F1 drivers in the mix. Those were some great races.

It was very cool to see that on Facebook. I immediately thought it would be great to see him in it in an SCCA race. No doubt he would have a blast. Somebody make it happen! :-)

There is an Al Unser III. It would be great to see him contest the series. I think he has great talent and he is very good working through setups.
Josef Newgarden attended the FF 45th Festival at Barber late last year. Very cool of him!
He also won his first Indy Car race there last weekend.
