    Default Tire Anouncement

    Pacific F2000/F1600 competitors,

Here is our announcement regarding tires for 2015. F2000 cars will be using the DM compound Pirelli radial. There will be a tire rule as in the past requiring the use of the Pirelli with a limit of one set of tires per weekend per car. After testing at Buttonwillow and Auto Club Speedway it is clear that these tires will do more than an entire weekend without appreciable degradation or wear. Although they were just slightly slower than the Avon bias ply control tire, there was little to no effort applied to refining the set up for the Pirelli. I believe that with a little effort given towards set up optimization there will be very little difference between the Pirelli and the Avon in lap times. If you wish to test with these tires (I would suggest that you do) you can order them from Buttonwillow Raceway. The price for these tires will be $1098 plus mounting and balancing.

For the F1600 cars I asked for input and received a lot of replies. The result was 100 percent unanimous in favor of the Toyo R888 which must be purchased through Buttonwillow Raceway. Dave Zurlinden ran these tires at Auto Club Speedway, so if you have questions regarding drivability, etc. you may want to shoot an e-mail to Dave. We used the R888 in 2013 and they are so durable and so consistent that they are a game changer. Buttonwillow Raceway is actually cheaper than Tire Rack for these tires at about $650 a set.

Brad Baytos just confirmed that Primus Race Parts will be title sponsor for the Series for 2015. Primus and Pirelli are both providing money for the series. Primus will also be doing some parts give-aways. Fast Forward has also expressed interest in some participation with some parts give-aways.

Congratulations to our competitors who took part in the non-points event at Auto Club Speedway. Prize money checks will go out this coming week. For complete results please visit our website at www.pacificf2000.com .

There will be another announcement in the coming week regarding series sign-up for the year, so watch for our next e-mail.

    Peter,

Any specific data on how much longer they last than the Avon bias ply for reference.

For instance, Avon's for us are pretty solid for 4-5 sessions at PIR and 8 everywhere else in the northwest (first 3 sessions their is no appreciable drop off).

Might be worth the switch to a spec tire up here as well if everyone ends up saving money.

6" & 8". Greg, the longest we have run a set of the Pirelli's so far has been about 150 miles on Les Phillips' Mygale FF. No drop off and still had lots of tread left. I am trying out a set tomorrow and will let you know what I think.

Peter is that the same set that HOPE used for practice and Qualifying at Fontana ? I thought Tom told me he grabbed the set from Les ... When I looked at the set on his car they looked untouched .. really amazing.

Not the same set. Les' FF uses different sizes than our cars. The set on Hope's car did 23 laps at Buttonwillow, then the four sessions at Auto Club Speedway. This past Thursday I did two more sessions at Buttonwillow on the same set. I then put on a sticker set for about another seventy laps. After my day of testing both sets still have plenty of wear left on them.

So how big of a difference did you feel between the stickers and the "slightly" used set ?

Not a lot. Times stayed about the same from beginning to end of the day.
