Looks too well made to be a camera mount. Where is it located on the car? that might give a clue.

That's at the roll bar - front of the engine cover - head height.
If I was sitting in the car you see the right side of my helmet ....

I think its about 2" tall and 4" wide... big...

There is an easy way to tell whether or not a race car part is too heavy. If you let go of it and it falls down, it's too heavy.

If you aren't using that part, it should not be on the car.

It sure looks like a camera mount to me. The only other item that usually goes there is a lap time beacon detector, but those are usually mounted inside the roll hoop fairing, looking out through a hole.

Yeah, I think the poor aero is dropping my lap times a lot....

I can't imagine how big or heavy the camera was....

I've got goPro mounts anyway....
