I usually prefer spring skiing.
We usually called that "perky" skiing!
Santa's little helpers never looked so good !
"An analog man living in a digital world"
yessiree. Thinking I may have to head a bit farther west........this spring.
Merry Christmas everyone
Oh, and Kirk (Racerdad2), we've got moguls out here that have more Vertical drop than Buck Bump. I'd invite you to come out and bring Michael, but he'd never want to ski Buck again!

We're planning a trip out West this season. However, the Reynard needs lots of love & $$$$$. As does the Miata.
Family ski vacation or race cars ? D'oh ! RACE CARS !!!
"An analog man living in a digital world"
Heading to Windham tomorrow.
Tuning skis today
I'm spending the weekend with the In-Laws annual Xmas get-together. Missing the three best local skiing days this year.... No offense to the extended family, but they're all quite content just sitting all day and all night....
BTW. The family farm sits in the flat lands of Minnesota. Next year I'm bringing an ATV, Snowmobile, Cross-Country Skis, something to be mobile on
Not a racer of anything amongst them all... The last time i sat this long was in the trip to Florida to pick up the Reynard....
I must REALLY love my wife
Medical question. Is it truly possible to die of boredom ?
"An analog man living in a digital world"
Hmmmmm..... you're getting sleepy.... very very sleepy. .... Keep you eyes on the swinging stop watch.... very sleepy. .....

Yay! Some new real snow coming tonight, and a few days of cold enough temps ( single digits finally ) for our little area to make plenty of new snow!
Finally!
Hope for the best for you Richard. Spending this week with the son and daughter-in-law, skiing Vail. Snow was great today. I am the second luckiest gut in the world.
Just turned to the wife and said, "It's still fairly warm outside. 2 (*F) above zero." She nodded her head in agreement.
We'll be skiing this weekend with temps in the balmy low teens.
Amazing how fast we adapt to Winter.
"An analog man living in a digital world"
Just got back in from the day on the slopes. Highest temp was 5 degrees, lowest -6, with constant 20-30 mph winds going UP the slopes, along with the snow guns going full blast all day everywhere! Made for rather, ummm, interesting skiing today! Constantly having to stop to clean the ice off of the goggles so that I could at least see my skis ( never mind the slope). At least they had not flattened out the bumps yet on the 2 double diamonds, so that was a blast for once - but good god are my legs GONE!
Gonna be even colder tomorrow!
Winds - the crazy part was that on a somewhat shallow ( almost flat) gully that connects one side of the place to the other was like a wind tunnel - probably 50 - 60 mph winds rushing up it. Had to get into a tuck to maintain even a walking speed!
Best part of the day was that almost nobody who wasn't a hard-core, long-time skier was there ( eg - lots of gray-hairs!) - there were for once some pretty decent skiers and boarders there busting the bumps, making the rides back up the chairs entertaining!
Now to give my legs a few days to recover before going back next Tuesday or so.
Ya gotta ski when ya can ! Might be 40 & mushy next week. Remember, no bad weather, just bad clothing
"An analog man living in a digital world"
Temps at Squaw Valley yesterday were around 58late afternoon, not mushy until 2 p.m.
Can U say: Lunchtime suntan?
Well, it warmed up to 14 above here yesterday. Quite Balmy
"An analog man living in a digital world"
Projected high and low for next week here are 36 and 9 - pretty decent compared to the last few days!
Amazing weather around here lately - many below zero days, and more snow coming down today ( about 8 inches here at the shop). Looks like out little bump of a ski are will be open for a few more weeks - they usually close by the second week of March!
No to get rid of this bum shoulder.....
All I need is a total body replacement. My 23 yr old body would've been there before they opened today. My 62 yr old body is still sipping coffee
"An analog man living in a digital world"
Here in Summit County CO, we've been getting a few inches of fluff every day for the past week+. Temps mostly mid 20's, partial sun, great skiing. Overnight snowfall winners are Wolf Creek(of course) with 16" on top of 10 yesterday, Crested Butte with 14" new and Telluride with 13. Most of the rest have gotten 2-6 or so, bases are mostly ranging from 45-99" at mid mountain. These storms of the past week or so have helping the snowpack across most of CO. (Important not only to skiing, but this way maybe the people in Nevada, AZ and CA will have some water this year.) Snow is expected to continue for the next couple days, then we expect a week of so of skiing in the sunshine and 40's! It's a tough life, but someone has to do it! And, the resorts here are all open until mid April or so, A-Basin until at least Memorial Weekend.
Now if my body just holds up...........

I know that feeling. My first outing at Windham @ Christmas on my first run my knee popped. I could not generate enough force to lock boot in binding. I could not walk up or down stairs for 2 weeks. My next outing at Okemo for NASTAR open I made all my races but it took until last Weds before I could ski again. I am trying to get two more race outing in to get my handicap down and my ranking a little higher.
I need new knees.
is it true that walk up ticket prices at Beaver Creek and Vail are $140?????????????
Why YES it is! Yikes! And at peak times, I hear it's $160! I've owned cars that cost less. (OK, I'm not really proud of that!)
There are better prices available by buying on-line, and buying multi day tickets, but still expensive. I buy a season pass or two, in the spring, for the next season. You can get those for around $440-$550, depending on which one, for how many resorts. They may have some restricted dates (around Holidays), but I don't ski when it's really busy anyway. The Vail Resorts Epic passes are a great deal for one that can get to a lot of resorts, something like 14 locations, including Afton Alps in MN with 330 feet of vertical!

Hell, for $78 dollars more, i get a season pass at out little place!
My 23 year old body would be laughing at me this week! My 61 year old body is wondering just what the hell is going on!
Slept on my right shoulder wrong last week. Saw the doc, got steroids and an anti-infalmatory that seemed to do the trick. Now today it is starting to get sore again. Arrrgh! My current boots are somehow back to pinching a nerve again in my left foot ( thought I had that cured), causing my foot to go numb - time to get the new bindings mounted so that I can play with the other pairs and see if the problem is with those boots or my foot - it damn well better be the boots!
I'm finally old enough to understand "The mind is willing but the body's unable"
"An analog man living in a digital world"
I know.
I keep looking wistfully at the jumps in the terrain park -used to do that stuff way back when - though to nowhere the degree the kids do nowadays.
I know damned well I could still do a full daffy or a 360 with a tail grab - at least right up until the landing!
At 52, I could be the first one on the hill at 9:00 am & the last one down at 10:00 pm
At 62, it's one or the other
