    Default Tire spec question

I'm an FB newbie, switching from FM. I am curious about tire choices. Have read the earlier threads. The FM's have been running Goodyear R255 compounds with very good results. Everyone in FB seems to be running Hoosier. I believe the Pro 1000 series requires this but it is open for SCCA. Has anyone run the 7" and 9" Goodyears with their rims? I have 8 and 10" OZ rims but they will accomodate 7/8 and 9/10.

A second question is Goodyear's continuing participation. I keep hearing they will be getting out of motorsports next year yet my Goodyear guy says he will be on track with tires. Anyone know any "real" info?

Goodyear is already out of the business- at least for the tires that fit those rims, FC, and FB to be more specific. They stopped making them, and anything available is what is left in their inventory.

I can't speak for FM- I don't know about that size as it is different...

I've run the 7 & 9" Goodyears in the R160 compound on my FB.

The Hoosiers are a much more consistent tire than the Goodyears in my opinion. It also seems that Hoosier actually has an interest in this class, hey they want to sell tires.

One thing that really stands out to me is that the Hoosiers are always within less than a 1/4" on tire diameter, not so much for Goodyear.

Ive been recently looking for tire options as well. The goodyears are non existent on their website. What other vendors can we run? and also are there any treaded tire alternatives that would work for just "practice" days?

Thanks all, sorry for reviving an old thread.

Avon A11 compound has worked very well for us on our FB.
We were below the track record in qualifying at the Summit Point Majors with these tires.
They're a bit more expensive than the Hoosiers , but Hoosier has changed the carcass construction on their FB tires recently, not to their advantage (in my opinion), and Avons are a very good alternative.

I believe most FBs use 7 and 9 inch rims with FC tires.

The reason is that the FC range of tires mounted on wider rims is a better fit for FB than using tires built for 8 and 10 inch rims. Because the FB is so much lighter than a FC, the tires from FCs are fully capable of handling the increased performance capabilities of FB. Also, the FC tires are much lighter than the bigger tires from something like a FM. The wider rims of the FB are also important in giving the tire the support to handle the higher loads. And finally the smaller FC tires contribute to the relative high speeds an FB is capable of reaching.

Hoosier and Avon are the two options. The equivalent Goodyear from several years ago were not very good on a FB.
