Anyone have a source for new German front drums? Does anyone make an upgraded one like we have for the rears?
Thanks,
Craig

I have not seen any in a year and according to my supplier, the only (German) company they dealt with is not making them any more.
I have had a lot of luck with Italian fronts ( and rears) so that might be an option.
Hope this helps

I had heard the Italian were next best. Anyone have a source for those? Thanks.
You do realize there has never been a report of a non-accident failure of any front brake drum. Are you chasing a wear issue?
Brian
There have been a couple of non-accident front drum failures, but I tend to agree that they're so rare, it's not worth thinking much about...
nhJohn said in another thread he had 3 german drums he was willing to sell.

How many do you want?

I had a non accident front brake drum failure last year. Just lucky the way it broke off the hub. Get good drums.
Good ones? There are not many options.
Sounds like there is something going on with 'hopefully' the drums from one country of origin. Can you guys having failures expand on the specific drum that failed?
Brian
They may be wholesale only but I use Pacific Parts International, 800-835-9723 Karen will answer and she's very helpful

goggle "brembo brake drums for vw". Have used these for years with no problems.
Brembos are usually Italian made.
And that is a good think? Is Italy know for a thriving foundry and machining industry? If they were, would you think they would compete on price.... which they are with these drums? Their labeling and content rules could be a little different than the US. But, if they are not failing then it does not matter where they source them.
We just need some data that is a little more accurate than rumors and stories to make a intelligent purchasing decision.

Yes.Is Italy know for a thriving foundry and machining industry?
Craig, we bought a pair of the Italian drums from Dietmar the beginning of last season and they work just fine with zero issues. You'll get them fast too.

Just a bit of experience theory here, sorry Brian, but poorly fitting shoes will cause significant shuttering and vibration. If your shoes "honk" or shutter when cold, it's likely they are doing the same when hot. Under our braking forces it may be contributing to drum failure.

I also have been running the Italian front drums for over 2 years now and have never had any issue with failure of them.
I would recommend them to anyone to use.

Thanks everyone for the PMs and recommendations. I was finally able to source a set of new German drums. Based on supply though it sounds like my next set will be the Italian ones.
