Default Regional FF spec tire rule?

Any NorPac or SoPac division regions have a region-only FF tire rule (NorPac has 9 regions, SoPac has 8)?

And wondering what to do about it for 2014 regarding the Regional path to the Runoffs?

See this PDF/webpage for a "Qualification Criteria" flow chart: http://www.sfrscca.org/images/2013/R...20criteria.pdf and note the box on the bottom right.

In the San Francisco region we have had a FF spec tire rule of some sort for the last 7 seasons and it has generally worked well to reduce tire costs. Currently the rule allows only Hoosier F1600, Hoosier R60a, Goodyear R430 and R475 (but neither being made now) and American Racer AR133 tires and requires qualifying and racing on marked tires. We are thinking of adding an Avon but testing has not been completed. Goodyears will be removed. Up until Pacific F1600 changed their tire rules for 2014 (to open) we were thinking of adding their Toyo R888 but that probably won't happen now.

We are suspecting with a regional tire rule the cars won't comply with the National GCR definition of FF so our races may not qualify for Division/National points and therefore a Runoffs invitation. Several of us are working with our new RE Gary Pitts to get a ruling from National on this. We may have to go back to an open tire rule (and maybe make a region only spec tire FF class as well) which some of us are loath to do but understand why that might need happen.

In the Northeast Division we have a Club Ford regional-only class which uses the same Hoosier, Goodyear and American Racer tires (and Dunlop treaded race tires).

In our 2014 Division Championship Series we will have competition for Formula F (per GCR) and Club Ford (per our rules with the tires above). Formula F will have a path to the Runoffs, Club Ford will not.

That said, any Club Ford (with the tires above) is fully legal in Formula F and can compete in that class if they choose. If Formula F and Club Ford are in the same race group (normal), they cannot compete in both classes simultaneously.

Simple solution....run an open tire per the rule but enforce the "regional" tire rule....anybody shows up with a sticky tire have the group take them out behind the woodshed to discuss their lack of sportsmanship.

    Default Would this work?

I'm Tom's crew guy and I've been thinking about this: Would allowing the 'open' tire approach, policed by the tire marking process keep costs down and still allow for Run-offs eligibility? That way, no one is showing up with stickers each qualifying session or race. Take the approach of the east coast F1600 and F2000 series. You get 'x' number of tires for the weekend (I think they limit it to six tires total) and you have to make them last. Please discuss. . . .
