Good work Gary. The car looks great. Can't wait to see it with the bodywork.

Garry,
I see a lot of attention to detail, nice looking work. Really want to see your Citation FST with the Silver Bullet bodywork. Think it will make a whole new car out of an old Citation.

Thanks for the support. I can't put off the fiberglass work any longer! I hope to be at Barber for Labor Day. As I've said before I think Barber is a great track for FST, FV, FF etc. so it should be a good place to try it out. Somebody come on down! You will love driving this track in a FST.
Thanks,
Garry
Anyone up for Barber on Labor Day? It's the weekend after Road America

I've some good progress on the body fitting. I'm thinking of putting the scoop opening above the roll bar.

Starting 2 chamber airbox.

IMHO it's my understanding that the improved aero into the carb actually comes as a result of the negative pressure from trapping the air on the backside of the filter/carb. Looks like the pan accomplishes that. I did the same thing on my FV Caracal and we are going to try to accomplish that with the newer cars.
Excellent craftsmanship ! She looks fast just sitting there...

Airbox ready for welding. Normal scoop opening will feed sealed chamber for engine air, 3" opening on "unusued" frontal area below scoop will feed oil cooler sealed chamber through duct hose. I figure when I reach 200 mph all this will make a difference so.....

Looks gorgeous!! Thanks for posting! Looking forward to seeing more pictures!
Love it. I'm guessing it will kick in about 185.
Thanks. Going to work on scoop this week. I'll post a picture if it comes out right.
Garry
Bridged the gap between the scoop and the airbox tray. It is possibly the worst looking
molding job in the history of motorsports, but I'll see what I can do with it.

Airbox came out better than I thought it would. It looks kind of massive, but about one third will be below the body.

looks great!
Gary,
You have to get that thing to one of our races (or vis versa). We all want to see it...
Jim
I'm trying. I keep missing my own deadlines for getting to races. You know how it goes, you upgrade 1 thing and then something else stands out that needs changing.
Garry
The best way to test is to race...as I have demonstrated all too well this season!

I finished a surround for the scoop. The Citation is a little different from the Caracal around the roll bar area so I needed to enclose it. It is 2 piece so I can check/add oil without taking the entire body off.

Decided to move steering rack to a safer position. It was mounted VERY low under the top frame tubes. (Picture1) It was literally about 2 inches above my ankles. I have a plan to brace the too tall Ackerman bracket to tie rod spacer. Does the geometry look about right?
Thanks,
Garry

A few more picture of Airbox and bodywork. I used a steering box "bump" to cover the hole required for FST intake manifold. I might make the ARRC yet.
Ackerman bracket brace and new steering rack mount. Nobody seems that interested, but B. Bonow asked me to post pictures for future reference.
A good picture doesn't need questions. It tells the story. It's two years from now when some other guy is working on his new car that these photos might well be priceless.

Heh yea i haven't saved enough nickles to build mine yet, so have to make do watching other cars get built.

Gary,
Keep the pictures coming!
Thanks,

Garry,
Ye have little faith.
With almost 2000 views, there are plenty of interested onlookers.
The Siltation project is coming along and the car looks great. Can't wait to see it on the racetrack.

"Wait, which one is the gas pedal again?"
I'm making 1 final push next week and try to at least make the test day at the ARRC. It won't be completely finished, but I'd like to see if what I've done so far works.
Thanks,
Garry
Steering system nearing completion. Thanks to Larry Campbell, Bill Bonow and Butch Deer.
PS: Larry, your check's on the way
looks like you had to shave the head of a fastener for clearance against your mounting plate...........ok, but i do not see the lock-nut engaging with "threads to spare".........hope this is temporary
Yes, that nut is hand tightened. I don't use nylon lock nuts twice so I will wait to tighten all the way at final assembly. The threads will come all the way to the end of the nut.
Gary:
A couple observations:
It appears you have gone for zero Ackerman steering geometry. You might give that rethink. You might look at the bracing for the steering link. That may give some flex issues under load.
With the extra power and traction of a First, you might make provisions for moving the forward end of the trailing arm either up or down. I think I would start with the arm horizontal and test it either up or down. This not only effects power down but braking as well.
Finally the front end of a FV has a lot of friction under loads, which acts like a shock. The extension of the shock pickup on the lower trailing arm may be just a mock up, but I question how effective the shocks are when they are cantilevered that far from the lower arm. And if you are droop limiting at that point, you are for sure torqueing the arm.
My 2 cents on top of what's already been offered!
The shock mounts you have are similar to what we're running with one difference. Our top mount is in single shear outboard of the outboard side of the shock tower. The shock isn't behind the tower but the lower shock mount extension is quite a bit shorter. I also have a big aluminum "spool" spacer that the shock bolts against to try to keep the flexing of the mount to a minimum. We decided that the shorter lower shock mount was more important than any aero advantage of the shock being behind the tower. The air behind the turkey legs is pretty dirty anyway.
The footbox dimensions of the Mysterian FV frame we started with required putting the rack up higher like your car resulting in similarly long extensions on the steering arm. After having trouble with the mount a couple of times we did some FEA to make sure the current solution has sufficient margin. Take care with this design.

Finished Cooling Shroud,
Home stretch on the Siltation. Hope to bring it to a Series Race this year.
