Default Hewland FA3 versus Hewland MK.9

Is there any difference in the torque rating or major internal components such as the ring and pinion, out put shafts, sideplates etc. between the Hewland Mk. 9 and the FA3? I see reference to "FT" concerning the FA3, is the FA3 similar in the strength to the internal components and torque rating to the original FT200? Appreciate any information on this topic and thanks, Jerry

    Jerry,

If we are talking about the Hewland F3A parts, that refers to the F3A designed Hewland series that was stronger than the Mark 9 and is considered roughly the equivalent to the Mark 5. The 89/90H Reynard atlantics used a bastard setup with the F3A CWP, bearing, etc. and the Mark 5 gears and used their own bespoke gearbox casing. It was not considered as strong as the FT. They changed to a pure FT200 in 1991.
