Default Canadian License eligibility for Cup events

There have been some questions concerning the acceptance of CASC licenses for competing at Watkins Glen (or Nelson) for the Autumn Challenge Cup races. I spoke with the registrar for the Fun One and she said that a valid CASC license plus $15.00 for a temp SCCA membership (insurance) is all that would be required for that race. I am almost certain this will be the case for the other series races also.

Don’t forget Arm Restraints and Fire Systems are mandatory in US. Both are only recommended in Canada.

F1200 drivers did a club vote and mandated that every f1200 driver must wear arm restraints before being allowed on track ,personally I would not race a car if it not equipped with a fire system. It is about time they were made mandatory with CASC.

    Just my 2 cents

    Cheers

I think the Fire System question is political. I tried to get a fire bottle, which was bought in the US, recharged in Canada to be told that the original suppressant was illegal in Canada. I am no expert on this, but my guess is that if CASC were to mandate a fire system it would have to conform to Canadian regulations and many of the systems available in the US may not. It is easier for CASC to turn a blind eye and let you decide.

About 15 years ago, while I was still racing in Britain, Britain signed up for an international agreement to reduced greenhouse gases, Canada probably signed up too, but not USA. Anyway, we all had to replace our fire bottles, as the suppressant we were all using wasn’t ozone friendly. Although, I doubt it can do much damage until the fire extinguisher is used. Newly acceptable suppressant required a fire bottle twice the size to give the same effect, which wouldn’t fit in the same position and what were we supposed to do with the old bottle.
Nevertheless, if my car catches fire; I doubt I’ll be worrying too much about the Ozone layer.

If anyone needs arm restraints, you're more than welcome to borrow mine for the races I won't be able to run.

One quick question regarding slicks. What tire pressures do you run in the Goodyears. It has been awhile
    Thanks

I’m surprised no one has answered this. Goodyear don’t produce FV tires anymore, so you’ll be in a minority on those. How old are they / how many cycles? Unless you hear different, I’d suggest starting at 19/21.

Thanks, Yes I am aware of that but these are brand new and stored in basement in bags. Tires seem ok but may be junk once I am on the track.

I ran some old Goodyears earlier this year with reasonable results. I hadn't run my Vee since the 2010 Runoffs where I ran one qualifying session a set of Goodyears just to try them (and in desperation to change something to see if it helped ;-). I figured I'd ruined them since I just went out and drove them hard from the get go.

When I decided to return to the fold this year, I thought I'd try them out. They were certainly worth "using up", especially since I was the only Vee in the first event I went to. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they worked though I was shaking off a LOT of rust and only driving against "the clock".

Those pressure recommendations are in the ball park once you get them scrubbed in.
