The Road America web site shows a test day sponsored by the Chicago Region on Friday August 23. The schedule shows 5- 40 minute sessions for both open and closed wheel cars. Cost for the test day is $250 before 8/22 and $300 on 8/23.
For those new to the track or those with things they want to test, it is a relatively rare opportunity to test at RA.
Robert asked me to see if we can organize ourselves in close formation in the paddock at RA
If you take a field of small cars and spread them around the paddock it can look like there is not that many of you there - specially when the infield is as large as RA.
So if we can bunch together we can make a larger presence - lets remind people we bring one of the larger classes to these events (and I wont have to walk so far to get one of Team Farmiga's excellent hotdogs for lunch)
So the targeted FST paddock area is on the grass close to the Shower/Toilet block - where SR Racing were last year.
If your going to make the Friday test day, or just going to be there early then see if you can grab as much space as possible so we can get everyone in!

I'll be in if I can get my motor back in time. Seems I spun a rod bearing and trashed a few internals.
Larry Webster the editor of Road and Track described in his August edition how he became a "monster" when driving a Miata at a "meaningless" SCCA race. It was actually a decent piece but it brings up the question of how do you make those SCCA races meaningful? The answer of course is you run the Hoosier Tire Formula First Series. Jim Schings did a great job picking video for our web site at www.formula-first.org . As a preview of the 2013 Road America race click on Rob Clark’s great videos from the 2011 race at Road America. For the first three or four laps you think it’s a three car race but in actuality it’s a five car “meaningful” race.
Watch this and you’ll see what I mean. http://vimeo.com/27720605
I love the fact I can be part of a group that is passionate about what we do. And, I will guarantee you as we build the class and look forward to the annual East versus West race for the SR Racing Founders Cup will be anything but meaningless. Damn Straight I wanna bring that back to Kansas. After all wasn't SCCA racing built on amateurs having fun and earning bragging rights for a year.
We are up to (7) cars, just over half way to our goal.
Here is the list as it is now:

"Wait, which one is the gas pedal again?"
Watching a race at Road America is like watching golf.
It's sooooo much better on TV
I'm in.
Sorry guys, got a gremlin in the car that I can't find or get rid of. I'm pulling my entry. I hate not being able to race my home track.
I will be bringing up Allan Adderley's Silver Bullet FST to get it started on it's trip back to Florida. The car will be on display around the LMI trailer in the FST compound.

Sorry to hear about the gremlin, Bill. We've been fighting gremlins of our own but we think we found it and resolved it and, pending, the results of the dyno runs tomorrow, I have gone ahead and entered my car. Here's to making more than three race laps next weekend!
Any hotel recommendations? It's been 6 years since I've been to Road America.

Matt, we stay in Plymouth at the AmericInn it's handy, cheaper then Elkhart and only 10mins to the track. Robert, Doug et. al. Usually stay there as well

Still a couple of potentials out there?

That would make for (12) FST's and a great race at Road America.

Great car count! Wish we were gonna be there.
Looked at my credit card statement today. American Airlines actually credited me for the aborted Milwaukee Mile flight. No communication about my appeal, no e-mails no nothing. I can't believe it.
Still-- I'm flying Delta up to Road America tomorrow. See you all there
Good racing to all, see you at Mid-Ohio
Chuck
I don't see this race listed on Race Monitor, so you guys please post frequent FV and FST highlights here...thx!

Sorry for the delay. I'm borrowing a laptop on the RA hotspot. Hope this works.
A busy day qualifying was strong with Doug Seim coming out on top with a smokin' time of 2:39.4. Here is the full grid:
Seim 2:39.4
Clark 2:41.8
Nash 2:43.8
Dawson 2:44.4
Deer 2:44.8
Wolfe 2:46.0
Sharp 2:46.1
Gordon 2:46.2
Farmiga 2:47.3
Finegan 2:51.0
Blevis NT
Dunlap NT
A split start gave FST a clear track with (12) FST's taking the green. Seim and Clark hung together and pulled away from Nash. A full course yellow and pace car due to a small F5 shunt at turn 8 slowed the pace. Clark retired with throttle cable issues (no throttle) and Nash was in a solid second place. Dr. Bill Wolfe and Matt Gordon battled back and forth (draft-o-mania) to claim 3rd.
Round 7 results:
Seim Fast Lap: 2:39.5 (new race record)
Nash
Wolfe
Gordon
Deer
Finegan
Farmiga
Clark
Dawson
Sharp
Dunlap
Blevins
Taking photos and enjoying the company.
More great FST racing in Round 8 tomorrow.

Team Battlepack does alright.
What a weekend......poles, records, wins and podiums! Nice going Matt, Doug, crews and car owners.

I too was able to get some decent shots, since I was not part of Sundays race. Once home I will post later.

Well, not all that common in FST, but Rounds 7 & 8 belonged 100% to Doug Seim and the BattlePack /RGU race team. Great job this weekend, (2) wins, (2) poles, (2) fast laps and a new track record, congratulations!
Round 8 Qualifying:
Seim sets the pace again with a pole time of 2:40.349. A tight grid for Clarke, Deer, Gordon and Nash will make for some good drafting.
Qualifying Results:
Seim 2:40.349
Clark 2:43.501
Deer 2:43.813
Gordon 2:44.332
Nash 2;44.713
Finegan 2:52.606
Wolfe 2:52.909
Farmiga 3:01.046
Blevins NT
Dawson NT
Dunlap NT
Round 8 Race Notes:
Good clean start, Clark hangs with Seim for the first lap. Clark has mechanical issues and slows, but continues and becomes a great drafting partner for Bruce Livermore in his FV while hanging on to second spot. Matt Gordon has the gremlins completely chased away from his car and is in a solid third place. Deer and Nash have an excellent drafting battle going for 4th position as the race progresses.
Round 8 Results:
Seim Fast Lap - 2:40.863
Clark
Gordon
Nash
Deer
Farmiga
Wolfe
I'll make another post with photos
Next stop of The 2013 Hoosier Formula First Championship Series is Rounds 9 & 10 at Watkins Glen with FLR and "The Fun One"
