    Default First Track Day

Finally git the ole Reynard on the track at BIR today. First session... Clutch wouldn't disengage. Adjusted... 2nd & 3rd sessions... Clutch slipping. 4th & 5th sessions she hooked up. Guessed good on set-ups, Wings & ride height She's very neutral. Under & Oversteer very easy when a little fast. Got into the 1:30's last session & decided to really 'go-for-it' and came flat out of carousel to #3 brake marker (like I've seen the pros do) ( I ain't no pro) got distracted for a split second, clutch pedal went missing... Not using it, just wasn't there ? Pedal fell forward... Straight off in 12... Nothing bent nor broken Now, time for new clutch parts, front to back. Brake bias was spot on, or so I think... First truly fast, deep braking ended in the weeds All other systems nominal... What a joy to drive ! Great beginners car

    Default Confessions...

Well, after a couple of conversations, the clutch issues were due to my ignorant crew chief (me) & my driver (me)... Still, a great first day ! These things are extraordinarily fast through the turns & I was surprised at just how good I could see in my mirrors. There were a few high horsepower cars in my run group that would catch me in the straights. Once we hit the twisties... Bye, Bye

Thx Keith ! Thx Jim !

I feel like I spent 11 hours at the track, 4 hours wrenching on my car & over two hours in a formula car yesterday... Or did I get mugged in my sleep last night...

    Racer,

BE CAREFUL dealing with the clutch on Reynard's. You can over depress them if not set right and it really messes up the slave cylinder.

Reynard clutches can be tricky, especially the slave cylinder. There's a WHOLE thread about how to disassemble and rebuild the slave. Worth reading and capturing the pictures if you ever need to do it.

But the most valuable 'tool' is Keith Averill for the right parts and additional info.

We didn't over depress ours but had to disassemble one to fix a leaky seal.

Thx Rick. I've been on the phone with Keith a lot. He's a blessing, no doubt ! Truly a Reynard Encyclopedia
