The U.S. F2000 National Championship Presented by Speedvision is deeply saddened by the events in New York City and Washington D.C. on Tuesday, but has announced that the season-finale at Daytona International Speedway will take place.

The race weekend, which was originally scheduled to begin with testing on Wednesday, will now begin on Thursday with testing, after all Wednesday activities were cancelled. The season-finale races will be run Saturday and Sunday as scheduled. In addition, the season-ending awards banquet will take place Sunday night at Walt Disney World.

"We cannot express the sense of loss and sadness from this national tragedy," said Jon Baytos, owner of the U.S. F2000 National Championship. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. After discussions with Daytona International Speedway and the Grand American Road Racing Association, we have decided to run the season-finale with some minor scheduling changes.

The U.S. F2000 National Championship Presented by Speedvision has announced the date of the reschedueled 2001 season-finale. The season-finale will now be run September 28-30, 2001 at Sebring International Raceway.

Originally scheduled to race September 15-16 at Daytona International Speedway, the U.S. F2000 season-finale was postponed following the tragic events in New York and Washington D.C.

The season-finale at Sebring will commence Thursday, September 27, with paddock parking in the morning, followed by a two-hour test session from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. With no on-track activities on Friday, the official event will commence on Saturday, with qualifying for both rounds of the doubleheader and race one taking place. Sunday afternoon race two will be run, completing the 2001 U.S. F2000 National Championship.

Going into the doubleheader weekend, four drivers maintain a mathematical chance at the championship. Billy Asaro, of Unionville, Ont., Can., leads the championship having scored three wins in 2001. Five points behind Asaro is Jason LaPoint, of Woodburn, Ore., who captured his first-career win on the last round. Also in contention for the championship are teammates, Peter Gray, of Aberdeen, Scotland and Doug Bell, of St. Albans, England.
