Steve- Buffalo is off I45 on the way to Houston(east side of state).Austin is further west off I35 more in the center of Texas. It is still not that far away from where the race will be held.

buffalo's about 150 miles from austin. you can take 79 straight from buffalo to austin. dumps you just north of the city
I know Steve, thought you might enjoy a trip to Texas.
My geo-misguidance is only twice as embarrassing as I have actually been to the Alamo and the river walk. Both are worth the hours drive. The root of the question remains. If you go that far, you want to see the sights. Hard to do in a rig with a trailer. Can't get downtown, can't park, too tempting to thieves.
Any ideas?

Talent usually ends up in front, but fun goes from the front of the grid all the way to the back.
I don't know what the cost will be for the SCCA to rent but it can't be any worse than the expensive boondoggle we had at TMS, May 2012. The track is a joke for road cars. COTA will put a lot of famous tracks to shame.
I am sure this is old, and sorry if I have duplicated it here, but it is a great vid.

If Texas secedes from the rest of the US, will we need a visa to attend the Double National in Austin? My passport is current.
Do you think it will matter if I leave my Obama and Pelosi bummer stickers on?
I do detect a note of excitement on this thread! Good luck to all who go!
I was at COTA today and walked the perimeter (outside the fence of course).
Awesome track. March will be fun.
And the Pilgrimage begins!! They cometh with four wheels, and four more for the floods
Per Butch Kummer, Majors boss, this event is now a MAJORS event.

Any chance someone could edit the title of this thread to reflect the correct dates?
Thanks to whoever changed it!

Sorry to be confused but if this is now a Major what does that mean?
Only Nat licenses allowed?
No regional classes like ASR?
What else?
National classes only, national licensed drivers only. Sucks for the rest of us.

Maybe they will end up needing all the entries they can get and make it a Rational. I know I will be there if they do.

Can anyone confirm this? Sounds like all club events have been canceled, I assume that would mean this event in March is off.
Full story:If you were fortunate enough to go to the inaugural U.S. Grand Prix at Austin's Circuit of the Americas last month, you may have started counting the days until you got a chance to drive on it too. After all, the track opened to rave reviews from both fans and Formula One drivers.
That's not going to happen now. Apparently, officials at the circuit have canceled all rentals, club races, driver's education events and other track days for 2013.

So much for one of the SCCA's first "Major"s
From BMW Lone star chapter;
Attention Lone Star Chapter DE Student and Instructors
We received devastating news from the Circuit of the Americas last night. Without explanation, communication at this time is that they they are now not interested in allowing HPDE or amateur racing at the facility. We have been advised that our deposit is being refunded, our dates cancelled, and all organization events such as our have been cancelled as well. This is undoubtedly a massive loss for the Texas motorsports communuity. We are shocked and amazed at this turn of events and regret that we must deliver this disappointing news immediately prior to the Holidays.
The facebook page for the Circuit may be a source of additional information (or frustration).

Wow. Can't wait to hear the reason. I can't even guess why they would do this.
What I wonder is how could they be so far "off". It seems any issue that could cause them to cancel every rental should have been discovered before they did contracts, cashed checks, etc. Or maybe the COTA management has taken on the Bernie Ecclestone ultra elitist style-we can do whatever we want to and there is nothing you can do about it. Either way a public relations disaster.
apparently I may have just saved a shipload of money.
After the racing highs of last year, followed immediately by the lowest of lows, the hits just keep coming...
I guess we shall see...

You know sportsfans, there is a great Major scheduled the following week at a hell of a track that has 40+ years of real road racing history. And the event is put on by a region famous for great customer service.
I'm going to the Atlanta Major.
