    Default Questions...

I'm installing a replacement engine in my Vector FST after the first engine dropped an exhaust valve and I have couple of questions (next time I'll make better notes before I pull the engine).

Upon installing the replacement engine I noticed that the clutch throwout bearing was contacting the clutch. I've now adjusted the linkage so that there is the smallest amount of free play (as best I can tell) at the actuating arm. Is this a good setting?

What's the firing order on the engine and how are the cylinders numbered?

What number main jet and spark plugs are folks using?

    Thanks in advance,

    Lance

As a note of interest, only high quality exhaust valves should be used in an FST engine. Most of the engine builders are using Manley stainless exhaust valves.

The clutch should have a very small amount of freeplay. Grab the clutch arm and you should feel 1/32" to 1/16" of movement.

    Firing Order: 1-4-3-2

As the engine is installed on an FST (or FV) left forward #2, left rear #1, right forward #4, right rear #3.

As for the jetting, you will have to dyno the carb to get the mixture correct. Each carb is different and use different mains jets. Jim Schings dynos FST engines often. Send it to him and he'll get the jetting correct.

As for plugs, I don't have a clue. Have not touched one in 20 years. The engine builder installs them and assume they are replaced at rebuild time. Again, I'd call Jim as he will have pretty good knowledge.

    Default Plugs

I agree with Bill on all counts here.

We never replace plugs all year They get changed out when the motor is refreshed but if you have the 14 mm 1/2 inch reach, the plug is normally a W5BC Bosch. If you use the 3/4 reach plugs in the heads I like best then the plug is Bosch WR5DC. We keep a set of both in the trailer but we've never used them.

I only know this because I put them in my phone a couple of years ago "just in case".
