[FONT=Verdana]Auto Club Speedway to Host Pacific F2000/FF Super Series Rounds 7 and 8[/FONT]
Buttonwillow, Calif. (June 6, 2012) – Auto Club Speedway will play host to the Pacific F2000/Formula F Super Series Championship Presented by Corsa Car Care this weekend, June 9th and 10th as the series takes on the challenges of the 2.880 mile circuit carved inside the two mile oval in Fontana, California. The series once again joins the California Sports Car Club on this visit to the speedway for the club’s Double Rational race weekend.
Leading the charge this weekend will be Dave Freitas Racing with five entries this weekend led by Rookie Bobby Kelley driving the #21 A&B Equipment, Van Diemen having already won three of the first six races and leads the points table. Joining Kelley will be Camden Geise in the #6 DFR Van Diemen another talented rookie who with four podium finishes and ranks second in the standings.
Joining the series leading pair at Dave Freitas Racing will be former USF2000 and Star Mazda driver Chris Hundley in the #62, Limousine Connection Van Diemen and Ira Fierberg in the #27, Pinnacle Performance, Sparco USA, LDF, DFR Van Diemen. Hundley returned to the series at the most recent events at Buttonwillow Raceway will be sharing his car with Harin DeSilva. Fierberg, a longtime series veteran, had raced earlier this season at Willow Springs and won a close race with 2011 series champion Conner Ford at Auto Club Speedway a year ago. The final DFR entry will be Peter West in the #99, Frank Monise Motors, T.J. Martell Foundation Van Diemen.
PR1 Motorsports will field entries for Camren Kaminsky in the #34 PR1 Van Diemen and Peter Thomas in the #7 Refrigeration Control Company Van Diemen.
Master Class point leader and series promoter Les Phillips driving his #2 Swiss Implants, Porterfield Brakes Van Diemen is looking to add to his string of top five finishes and extend his point lead.
Leading the way with five victories in six races in the Formula F group is 2011 F2000 series champion Conner Ford, now running a Mygale/Honda in the Formula F class for PR1 Motorsports and sponsored by The Keniston's, JF Excavating & Grading, Western Nevada Supply and Sparco USA.
Ed Erlandson who lies second in the standings and is the only other driver to taste the victory champagne in the Formula F class with a win in round 2 at Willow Springs brings his #8 Art by Eli, Porter Racing, Loyning, Goodyear Swift DB6/Ford back to challenge Ford for the Formula F honors.
Neil Roberts author of “Think Fast, The Racer’s Why-To Guide To Winning” returns in the #12 Keenan Honda, ThinkFast Engineering, ThinkFastBook.com Swift/Honda and will be joined in the Formula F group by Sage “The Rage“ Marie driving the #17, Honda Performance Development, Piper/Honda and series newcomer Ethan Shippert in the #55, Lucky Strike, Ivey Engines, Shippert Racing Van Diemen RF97/Ford.
In its second year is the Formula F Super Series which is made up of current model Formula F (formerly Formula Ford) cars with either the 1600cc Ford ‘Kent’ engine or the newly added 1500cc Honda ‘Fit ‘ engine. Chassis include Swift, Van Diemen and Mygale.
On track activities begin at 8:00am Saturday with Pacific F2000 practice and 9:50am, qualifying at 11:50am and racing at 4:45pm. Sunday’s schedule calls for qualifying at 9:50am with the race to follow at 1:45pm.
The series format provides several races within the race as competitors battle for top honors in Expert (drivers 35-50), Master (drivers 51 and up) and Formula F classes as well as for overall victories.
The single-seat, open-wheel F2000 cars with their 140+ horsepower Ford Zetec engines are capable of speeds in excess of 140 mph. All cars run on Cooper Tires supplied by Sierra Tire with a single set used for the entire weekend adding the element of tire management to the race strategy. VP Racing fuels also is an official provider, along with Corsa Car Care, Porterfield Brakes, Wine Country Motorsports Aerocraft Fiberglass & Design, Williams Racing Developments and Buttonwillow Raceway.
