Wish I could be there. An unexpected engine rebuild used up a considerable chunk from my war chest for this season.

That's not good news... (Try to make it to Peru. I'm guessing it will be the largest "CM" tour pre-nationals.)

A series of unexpected events has just led me to fly to Lincoln to co-drive my friend's CSP car for the Tour. I will make sure to visit the CM grid to say hi to everyone.

We in the SE have just about given up on running at Peru due to the really rough surface there. Any hope that it will be fixed (like grind down and patch)?

Race cars are less like likely to break than street cars, right?

My friend's car is one of the best built CSP car in the country and far from a "street car". Miraculously, he fixed the car in time to lead the class over the current national champion after Day 1. I am now kicking my butt for not making the trip.

If you meant stock cars by the "street cars", I think they have much less issues than "race cars". YMMV.

FYI despite comments such as mine it appears that Nick Myer's FF may have broken during Mark Lamm's first run. Mark got one slow run and DNS the other 2. Nick co drove Ray Thomas's car. Mark's Dulon (assuming it is still his) already had two drivers . . . one of whom is leading the class.

EDIT: Mark took one slow run today in Nick's car today. I'm guessing some problem that allows slow running only. FYI the CM rookie (Brandon) won. Darn kids.

Actually, MANY street cars are very reliable in autocross. Been there done that.

Congrats to Brandon on the win

Looks like CM should do well on PAX, too. I understand the course(s) had a bunch of the "slalom till you drop" type elements...supposedly a variation on Kevin Younger's west course from last fall? In any case, good job by CM...even though I think PAX is more magic than tech, it is good to see CM represent and Brandon really showed 'em all the quick way home!

The results seem to validate my suspicion, in CM it is more the driver than the "right" car. Good driving Brandon!

Saturday on the test course we broke an axle. (Next time we'll have spares.)

After much thrashing.. (Mark welded the broken axle), I made a very tough decision to not run the car.

Mark deserves much praise. Not only did he fight for 6 hours to weld the broken part, He fell on the sword so the rest of us had a shot at earning a tire by finishing 2nd. (Being 6'4", he couldn't fit in Ray's car without some significant modifications.)

Certainly a disappointing weekend for us. I'm most disappointed that CM didn't have enough cars at the event to pay tires (Why travel 1/2 way across the country to compete against the same people as the previous weekend at Grissom?)

Without my car taking a parade lap, the entry count would have fallen to 6. Someone had to take one for the class. I'm saddened it had to be Mark.

My "not broken yet" original (and appropriate tools) will be added to the spares with me at Blytheville. I broke the other one at a local event where one spinning tire hit a pothole right after the start and then got sudden grip on the other side. Extremely clean break! The replacements were supposed to be much stronger. So far, so good after many years.

Edit to add: I just remembered that both axles had been magnafluxed for the first time a couple of events previously. Figures.

Really great of Mark to take those exhibition runs both days to allow another trophy.

Wow. Once again, Mark Lamm comes to the aide of others / the class. I only hope someday that all of us who have benefited from his assistance can, somehow, repay our debit to this guy...

Thanks for the update Nick. On a, somewhat, positive note, at least this happen well in advance of Blythville / Nationals...

Mark also spent several hours in my trailer patching up a clutch master cylinder that got broken (along with my frame) on a course feature I affectionately dubbed the "ski jump". Other than that one bump, the courses were awesome. East had all the annoyingly tight pinched turns in the 'city block' part opened up, West had about half of the endless slaloms replaced with some really fun offsets. Running familiar course layouts backwards also made it easier to get the 2nd course down without having days in advance to walk it.

Congrats to Brandon! In spite of the damage my car ran perfectly. He put together a couple of smoking fast runs.

I hope to get my car back together in time for Blytheville.

Geez, it was a tough weekend for Modified cars in Lincoln! Here's a listing of the damage I have heard about :

~ Don Elzinga - CM : Broken frame / master cylinder
~ Nick Myers - CM : Broken axle
    ~ Clemens Burger - BM : Broken a-arm
~ Greg Piper - FM : Clutch "explosion"

Ouch! Kind of like "I went to a Solo and a Club Race broke out" kind of weekend.

I guess "we" should stop bragging about how reliable our cars are . . .

FYI If Nick's axle is an original (or equivalent) Van Diemen or UK part it was "time" for it to break under the stress of autocrossing. I broke one many years ago and replaced both with high strength US sourced axles. Mine were/are not drilled.
