    Default In-Car Camera Choice

Thought y'all might like to know.

I was roaming around in Fry's Electronics with a friend with zero intent to buy anything and saw a Samsung HMX-W200.

I decide to buy it for an in-car camera (and to carry on business trips)

    The advantages seem to be:

    Has a built-in screen for set-up
    Full HD
    Shockproof
    Waterproof
    Low light lens
Latest BSI image sensor technology (sorry related to my business)
    Records up to 2 hours
    Built-in Telephoto
    Small and light
    Also functions as a camera
    Costs $119 at Fry's

    Its less on Amazon.....

Problem with these cameras is mounting them. How do you plan to mount it to the car firmly so you have no vibration and eliminate wind noise with a mic built into the unit which is out in the air?

In my opinion, the only real good options for these cars are RaceOptics, VIO or ChaseCam. GoPro some people can make work but I have never seen a video yet from one with no vibration and/or wind noise. I feel the same for any of the all in one systems.

Ill post my gopro once I get it edited somewhat (just got home from the track and first time with it) no wind and only vibration is the car hitting the larger bumps (dont think even the rumble strips show up) I will admit my cars a door banger though...

Yeah, I wasn't talking about tin tops. With a tin top, you have a wind screen to prevent noise and for vibration, you have pretty good mounting options to your roll bar. With single seaters, you do not have a wind screen or as many viable mounting options.

I have a VIO and use this mount for mine, it is great. VIO and RaceOptics use in line mic's so you can tuck them away to eliminate wind noise as well. A little tape over the pin hole doesn't hurt either.

We are an advertiser here on Apex Speed and one of the things we sell is in-car cameras.

I can tell you right now that mounting this camera is going to be difficult because they do not make anything because race cars never crossed the creators minds, when it came to the use of the product.

Also the wind noise is going to be extremely high. Positive note on that is that you wont hear any of your mist shifts or anything along those lines because the audio wont be picked up

FYI we have a sale going on now on in-car cameras on the Race Optics brand one of the brands NPalacio mentioned he recommends. Go take a look in the business retail section and give us a call or E-mail.

Replay xd is my choice. About the size of a lipstick camera, fully self contained and no downside I can see. $300.

I would not take a GoPro free.

As promised the go pro video. (first 2 laps from Sundays race, and yes I need to clean the windshield...) Never mounted a camera before, first event using it and its simply stuck to the dash with one of the standard adhesive mounts. For those that get a lot of vibration thats from all the pivot points they put on the mounts, the more pivots the less stable the camera itself actully is and the more likley to vibrate/wavy picture.
