    Default Lotus 51a engine information

We have a Lotus 51A that we are setting up and the "original" engine needs resleeved. I am wondering if there is something of value in still running this engine as opposed to purchasing an uprated engine.
Aside from the perfomance advantages, does this original engine have some historical value.
It has a LOTUS-HOLBAY engine cover with a Vanguard stamping plate. I can't tell if this is possibly the engine that was first put in the car or not. And is it worth perserving? The car itself is phemonally restored, it's just that it has been sitting and the engine needs rebuilt.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Unless that chassis was raced by someone who went on to racing glory and unless that was THE motor that propelled him to that glory, the motor has very little "historic" value to the project.

When we go to an uprated engine...will we need to update anything else? Will the flywheel work and is there anything else we would need to convert?

The original block and the uprated 711M blocks were different widths at the motor mounts, but only on one side. I can't remember which way it went (which was wider), but that was one issue for sure.
I think the old rules had different weight flywheels, but both should be 110 tooth.
