Master machinist, fabricator, race mechanic, founder of the Ferrari owners association, mentor and friend since I was 4 years old, passed away at his home on Sunday November 6th. Surrounded by his family, John passed away peacefully.
John's shop, Auto Turismo Sport in Briarcliff, NY. where I was working the first year I started racing in 1986 was the first sponsor I put on the side of my car and was damn proud of it. I learned a lot from John about machining, fabricating and life in general.
John was most happy at the race track watching his son Stevie #18, my step dad Will#19 and me#20 "clean house" at RCCA races back in the 80's and 90's. The excitement in his face when one of "his" Ferrari red ATS Racing team cars won, was priceless! With a big smile wrapped around his pipe that had sparks shooting out of it backwards, John was always the first person we would see in pit lane after a win.The race track is where John's heart shined the most. I will always cherish those memories.
God bless and thank you Poppa.
