smaller, narrow car will get through tight sections better, larger, modern more downforce road race cars will get through large, open sweepers faster. wider cars have to move over more to make gates, but might have more ultimate lateral grip. shorter wheel base will rotate faster.

to brutally simplify it, Both size DSR can have equal power. small F500 or older short wheelbase DSR = F125 like handling
newer larger DSR = ASP Corvette like handling

Default Solo BM prepration and choices

BM is made up cars that from the GCR. I'll call Open Wheel "OW" and sports Racer "SR" here to save some typing.

Realize that exceeding the prep level of a GCR class pushes it to another class, just like in road racing.

For instance. In either racing venue, if one puts on larger wings or does an engine swap or engine mods, a car moves into another GCR class or weight break in solo regardless of what it was originally was.

So, cars that have a logbook for a GCR class no longer currently listed in the latest GCR qualify to run in solo BM by virture of being legal in whatever current GCR class they would be allowed to run in now if they showed up at a road raod race event. They might be under-prepared, but there is probably always a current GCR class that everything ever made fits into now.

Also, even though ASR is no longer a National class, it is nevertheless in the GCR and is therefore legal to in BM solo.

You all should be aware of the Solo rule book rule changes for 2012 as well as the current structure of the rules in order to bench race what the best car choices might be for BM.

It hopefully STILL won't clearly be a Cheetah, AMAC, or LeGrand DSR, but a close pick among many that will also include many open wheel cars choices as well.

As in all solo classes, the solo rules over ride the GCR rules. Weights, safety device inclusion, and engine prep are all changed.

Far too many diverse cars are mixed together in BM to get snarled up in the original GCR hyper-complicated weight adds or breaks for valve sizes, venturi's and other details. What might have been fair to match cars in a single road racing class doesn't work in solo.

Cars that originally were FS, DSR, FF2000,FS, FB,CSR, ASR, F1000, FA, all have wide open engine building limits in BM. (Only exception is weight beak of 1090# for GCR engined FF2000. If a FF2000 has engine mods exceeding GCR, then it gets more weight than 1090# in BM)

Basically, parity is attained in BM by dictating equal weights for equal motor size (at distinct cc breaks) and all open wheels run GCR FA aero and all SRs run SR GCR aero rules.

Example: F1000 can have non-stock internals in BM. A CSR with a 2L Quad-four can now build the motor past the GCR limits in solo but it has to run at a weight prescribed for all motors of that size (1285# with driver for both SR and OW since it is more than 1600cc.

There is now an aero rule change for open wheel cars that should appear in the 2012 solo rule book that most notably allows open wheel cars the same wing height as SRs had all along. That is the main change that affects open wheel cars of all sizes.

The rest of the rule change is aimed at making it fairer for larger open wheel cars. It is meant to help open wheel cars wider overall than 59 inches. That "bigger car" help change actually still parallels the GCR SR aero, expect for the contacting skirts part for those wider than 66".

Aero allowances tied to size, both open wheel and SR means they both can run front wings as wide as the car. SR were already allowed that, open wheel were not previously-they had to stop at 59". So, a FF2000, for instance, can have a front wing as wide as its overall width, 65, 66, 70", whatever. Same as SR were always able to do in GCR and solo BM.
