JR is running a Suzuki.
There is a car out there today that could cut that lap, but probably not with the its owner/driver at the controls - unless he gets a wild hair where the sun don't shine at some point during the race. What is it ? Jacek's CSR. IMHO. Clark
Good luck Sunday, Brandon. Don't F^uck it up! Just set the cruise control and relax!

So if I place a SBC in my FV and run it at the next Regional/National at RA and make
it under the 2:00 minute mark before I hit the wall after the kink, I'm entitled to the
$10,000 ????

Here is the quote from the DSR forum about the carbon springs...
"Next is a picture of Chris Farrell's new Hyper Coil springs they appear to be a carbon fiber belleville washer designed to be digressive in rate response. Chris says they are stiff at turn in to help rotate the car and then get progressively softer in rate, he says it is like adding an anti roll bar to the car."
I'll have to think about that one for a while. Looks really cool though.

Best of luck to everyone in today's race!
looks like it's going to be wet, it's anyone's race now! can't wait!
Ugh. What a stressful time. Moments before the national championship with a wet track and not knowing what the conditions will be. Those guys have my sympathy. Hopefully it will be a showcase of driving talent without incidents.

I have been watching the speedcast coverage which has been pretty good on the single class races, but is there live timing too?

You can navigate to it from the SCCA Runoffs web page.
Yes...the FB race is about to start: SCCA Live Timing

Wow. It looked like there might only be 7 cars starting the race, but Hill & Beauchamp joined late, probably with last minute tire changes.
Looks like JRO did not make the start, and two cars appear to be done after one lap (Beauchamp and McLaughlin).
bloody hell was looking to be a great race shaping up

Congrats Brian and to all!! It was a fun race to watch in what looked like really hard conditions. Cars looked awesome on Speedcast! Congrats again!
Great race. Congrats Brian. Looks like the Waterford Hills contingent is doing very well this Runoffs.

Congrats Brian. Great race by all. Enjoyed watching it on the speedcast.
Congrats to all that ventured out. Good run Brian
anyone taking pics this year? congrats Brian, nice run.
Excellent race everyone. Congratulations Brian on the win. You have now earned a free entry into the first event on our 2012 schedule.
Sort of historically interesting that the chassis that won the largest FB race ever ('07 ARRC), has now also won the Runoffs. Good job Brain! Glad To see you and your father get permission to pull that car out of the old St Clair shop and put it back on track.
I feel so bad for my friend Brandon. I know in my years with DaveW, those Citations are so easy on their tires, sometimes when you need heat, it's hard to create. Brandon did so good on both broadcast interviews saluting his family. Next year Brandon.

I was thinking watching the broadcast. Next year teams will monitor the broadcast on pit lane. Radio info to their drivers. It's like having spotters all over the track.
I was only there on race day, and it was cold and rainy, and I had a flight to catch...so I only snapped a handful of photos but here they are

Get your FIA rain lights here:

Brian does have an assisted shifter.
Jeremy was late to the grid because we had a rain light that quit working. Then things kind of spiraled down from there. We certainly had high hopes for the race based in the Q 4 qualifing time. There was more speed in the car if it would have been a dry track. If the race would have been dry it was going to be an incredible battle for probably the top 4 or 5 cars.
Apparently there were at least 3 engine failures in FB at the Runoffs.
Can anyone elaborate on the causes?
Brandon's failure was breaking the #1 connecting rod just a little bit below the wrist pin. It was not an oiling issue as both ends were floating freely and the crank is most likely still good. The piston did not stick in the bore either. Engine had about 1600 miles total on it and one weekend since refresh.
Several engine builders looked at it and the most likely scenario is: **** happens.
JR had a couple blow up, but I don't know why. Those are the only ones I can remember.
Stronger aftermarket conrods and bolts would help solve this. Cheaper than an auto shifter. This is why I left.
With all the hand-wringing going on over compliance of stock motors, bodywork/sidpod/floor shape, assisted shifters, etc. , I was wondering if Tech actually measured anything during the runoffs this year other than weight?
No engine teardowns? No borescopes? No last minute "bodywork" additions/clarifications? No checks of GCU's or ECU's? No fuel checks?
It was pretty quiet this year, at least on this board. I guess no one protested anything.
Thanks,
Tom
Tom,
They bore scoped and were looking at the floor shadow rule.
Our car was very carefully inspected in impound after the race. The engine was not removed from the car and torn down, however George Dean and 2 tech inspectors did inspect the cylinder head, cylinders, crankcase and gear set with a bore scope. We did take off all the top end stuff and crank case covers required to look at things. We did have to tow it back to our paddock as enough stuff had been removed that it would no longer run without at least a couple of hours of work.
George looked like he was training 2 tech guys in the procedures required to check the 1000 engines.
Tech did not inspect our bodywork at impound after the race but they did take a very carefull look at things after Q4. I assume that this was considered adequate after the race. I did not see what they did WRT the bodywork on other cars as we were only in impound after Q4 & the race.
I personally looked at the bodywork of the various cars and while I had a couple of interpretive questions I thought they were all legal. Just my opinion though.
Thanks ... Jay Novak
i think everyone was "scared" into compliance. not sure anyone would want to show up with known legality issues. the rules have been clarified over the entire season, and hopefully that is all behind us. engine issues seemed to be an even bigger problem for the dsr guys. seemed like 3 or so engines per session. brandons failure looks odd for sure. we had one break a crank right in half at seattle, and no oil issues on data, and all looked well other then the snapped crank which locked up against the case. wonder if wet sump guys are trying to run a little lower oil level for increased power, or if most/all blow ups were non oil related? i sold Lee Alexander the BRD prototype wet sump system, and he was one of the few dsr guys that did not blow an engine, and he set the fastest ever club racer lap, so it must work pretty good.
so why did JR not make the start?
