As many of you know I have been a member of the SCCA for 43 years. I have spent more than 25 years being directly involved with F500, driving, building cars, supporting the class in every way I can. Some of you may know that I am chairman of a committee that is composed of 8 members of the F500 community. Over the last 2 years we have tried very hard to put together a proposal to allow the use of 600cc 4 cylinder motorcycle engines as ALTERNATIVE engines for use in F500. The goal of this proposal is to get this great class on a growth path that will lead to higher participation and to bring in the younger racers who want low cost racing.
We have provided the CRB with tons of documentation, dyno data, track results etc. The CRB has VERY carefully reviewed our information and has recommended to the BOD that they approve the proposal at the October BOD meeting.
Here is a link to the actual proposal that was published in the August Fastrack.
I am asking each of you to read the proposal. I know that you will find that the proposal has a ton of merit and should be approved by the BOD. I know that all of us love racing and want the SCCA to grow and to bring in some new younger racers. F500 if it becomes more mainstream with the inclusion of motorcycle engines will draw lots of new racers to the club. I can tell you for a certainty that you cannot go faster for less $$$ than F500 and this will only get better if the MC engine proposal is approved.
If anyone has any questions or wants to discuss this please send me an email of give me a call.
In the end please take a few minutes of your time and write a letter to the CRB & the BOD in support of the motorcycle engine proposal for F500. Go ahead and make my day!
Your letters can be sent to: bod@scca.com or use the CRB link at: www.crbscca.com
Thanks a ton,
Jay Novak
